Laptop Upgrade Memory

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro SPA40 with small memory - I was wondering if anyone here has ever upgraded the memory of this laptop and if so... what memory do I need and do you have access to the hanbook on how to upgrade - I can't find it anywhere by googling!

https://www.crucial.com/uk and use the memory selector tool. Upgrading the memory is easy. Under one of the covers on the base held in by a screw, there'll be a socket to fit it in.

Check to see if there's already some in it. No point buying 256MB to find a 256MB already sitting there.

I don't know if this helps, but there is a manual for a Toshiba Satellite A40 here (differs slightly from your model name, but could be the same construction!) /ack - didn't know tiny__url was banned on here... here's the long URL!

Thaks mate... actually I've just realised SP stands for Satellite Pro !!!

Ok... I've looked up what sort of memory that I want and it says 200 pin DDR - Now... I've found cheap DDR2 modules - can I mix and match or is this not the case?

Would I be able to replace my Ram with two DDR2?

To answer my own question.... from Wikipedia

DDR2 DIMMs are not backwards compatible with DDR DIMMs. The notch on DDR2 DIMMs is in a different position than DDR DIMMs, and the pin density is slightly higher than DDR DIMMs. DDR2 is a 240-pin module, DDR is a 184-pin module.
Faster DDR2 DIMMs though are compatible with slower DDR2 DIMMs. The memory would just run at the slower speed. Using slower DDR2 memory in a system capable of higher speeds results in the bus running at the speed of the slowest memory in use.
