Please could someone help me out? this is my first time on here, so be gentle!! I received an email titled 'You have won shares in ITV1 Tycoon winning business' and it reads as follows:
<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=2 width=555><TBODY><TR><TD>
</TD></TR><TR><TD>IMPORTANT INFORMATION: (there is a number here)
Congratulations! You recently entered the ITV1 Tycoon shares competition and I am delighted to say you have won a stake in Iain Morgan’s winning business.
I am awarding 2,000 prizes of shares, representing 25% of the business in total, and you are one of these prize winners. Later in the year, you should be able to sell and buy your shares. But to claim your prize, you must register for them as soon as possible – and no later than 10am on 23 August 2007.
Having shares in a company means that you have an opportunity to share, financially, in the fortunes (or misfortunes) of that company. You can sell the shares you win or if the Company does well, it may decide to pay dividends. You should however be aware that the value of shares can go down as well as up.
To claim your shares, please complete the following steps:
In order to help us manage your new shares efficiently, Tycoon has partnered with The Share Centre, a major retail stockbroker. They will look after your shares in Iain’s company and help you trade them. In the process of claiming your prize, you must open an account with The Share Centre. This will not cost you anything, but The Share Centre will need to ask for some personal details to confirm your identity and comply with anti-money laundering regulations.
If The Share Centre is unable to do this online, you will be required to submit documentary evidence of your identity, such as a bank statement and a utility bill. The Share Centre will need to receive this information before 4 September or you will lose your entitlement to shares. Please be assured that The Share Centre will look after your personal information very carefully. Further information can be found here privacy policy (http://www.share.com/webp/priv.htm).
Provided you have activated your account with The Share Centre by the 7 September, your shares will be issued shortly afterwards. You should then be able to trade the shares later this autumn.
But remember - if you haven’t started the registration process by 23 August, you will lose your prize and any entitlement to shares.
So congratulations again on being a competition winner. I and my fellow directors of Iain Morgan’s winning company look forward to welcoming you as a shareholder.
With best wishes
Peter Jones

Hi,
I've just received the same email and just like you wondered if it was a scam.
All however seems ok. If you check out www.tycoon.com and the winner's profile, the prize is specified in there and matches up with the email. The original post for this competition was posted in this thread some time ago.
So I think it should be congratulations (to you, me and 1,998 other people!)

Same happened for me, now waiting for my postal pack or something.
You have to give quite a bit of personal information but I already do this for other shares I own (worthless by the way) so I think this is normal. I get letters saying 'Can you confirm this is correct FOR MONEY LAUNDERING PURPOSES?'
I've asked if they want to change the wording to 'IN ORD ER TO PREVENT MONEY LAUNDERING' but I suspect my bank is humourless *shock*:rotfl::T Thanks to all who post on here :T
