How to remove this tap

I am trying to replace a tap. Here is what the fitting looks like:

The screw does have a hexagonal hole which I put a hex bit into but the screw has split after a hefty tug!

Any ideas how to get the tap off?

Thanks.

Can you not use a mirror to get a better picture?

If the water is switched off, then you could unscrew the flexi pipes by hand thus giving you enough room to grab the 'butterfly' bracket with some pliers and undo the whole thing.
    Good luck.

At the end of the day that part is not going back on, so cut the whole thing off with a junior hacksaw

I not sure the butterfly will turn even with the flexi pipes removed it seemed pretty immovable when I tried to provoke it with a pair of pliers. Is sink off wall and hacksaw the butterfly reasonable?

Even with the sink off the wall it looks like it'll be quite awkward to get a blade where you need it. Do you like that sink that much?

With the sink off the wall you may be able to get some mole grips on the screw or get an angle grinder in there.

Metal drill bits of progressively larger sizes into the middle of that hex socket, until it disintegrates.

Possibly using a flexible drive attachment on the drill
  • Get the sledgehammer out and be done with them, mind the sink if you want to keep it!

No seriously, un connect the flexi pipes, and then unscrew the butterfly nut. You should then have access to the taps, and use a tap spanner to remove the connection to the tap.

If that fails, get the bloody sledgehammer and say oops!
