MSE News: Motorists to be given 10 minute leeway when parking tickets run out

As stated there is nothing illegal about overstaying for 10 minutes in a council car park. And if councils don't like the new regulations they only have themselves to blame as a result of using aggressive parking enforcement as an illegal means of revenue raising.Je suis Charlie.0

I actually had someone say that to me one, I only just went over my time, no you paid for an hour and you were 40 minutes over. You were parked there for over 50% longer than the time you paid for...
That said the real solution is to make it in the councils interest to have a vibrant town center. As I understand it they are only now getting to keep a higher portion of business rates. Anything else is utter madness...0 -
How long before there is a post on here saying........"i went one minute over my grace period and got fined - its not fair"

Why has this reached 24 posts, it has nothing to do with parking on private land. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0

Exactly. The "line" has to be drawn somewhere. I would have thought not advertising this would have been a better idea, then motorists who overstay by 10 minutes 1 second can't bellyache as they are bang to rights and those who overstay by up to 10 minutes would know nothing about it/have nothing to be agrieved about.
Same principle could apply to bank overdrafts e.g. an unadvertised buffer zone of a tenner say in addition to any facilitiy already organised.0 -
It has a reasonable, legitimate basis, however - e.g. you go to a shop, and leave to return to your car in plenty of time. However, as you're leaving there's a sudden downpour, so you hide under the awning (it was sunny, and you don't have a coat), so you're 2-3 minutes late (I seem to remember this being upheld in a court case, although that could be my memory inventing things). Obviously, that doesn't mean people won't abuse it ...So Eric Pickles encourages people to park cars illegally for ten minutes. Must be the first minister in modern history to encourage illegality.0 -
Well the title of the forum is 'Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking' so the subject of this thread covers at least 2 of the 3 items in the title and probably the 3rd as wellWhy has this reached 24 posts, it has nothing to do with parking on private land.
I don't see anything to say it is limited to only POFA & PPCsThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
