Advice required on choosing a laptop and dongle

Cisco - I think I'll probably go with PAYG as long as I could change it over to monthly if I wanted to. I'm looking to doing matched betting online at my partner's house. I'm currently with Orange or EE and I'm not sure what you mean by tethering.
Enfield - Thanks appreciate the explanation of the difference between a Dongle and MIFI. It would only be me using the laptop, so I'm not sure whether it's still worth having a MIFI instead of a 3g dongle. It's possible that I might get a tablet also at a later date but I haven't even purchased a laptop yet. I'm not sure what type to purchase.0

Using your phone to connect a laptop or tablet to the internet is called tethering.

I've only got a basic phone so I don't think I'll be able to use that. I still don't know whether to go with a 3g dongle or MIFI. I'll be the only one using the laptop.0

Get a MiFi. How many times do you need to be told? 0 0

Nifty Digits has already given you plenty of advice on another thread that you started. Go for Mifi as he suggested in that thread, and then you can do what you like, whether it be pay and go, or contract.Andrea2528 wrote: »Enfield - Thanks appreciate the explanation of the difference between a Dongle and MIFI. You keep asking for advice about different things, and don't seem to have a clue what you actually want.
In this thread, you are talking about buying an HP Stream laptop, and you may later want a tablet too? You do realise that the HP Stream has only a 32 GB hard drive?
I cannot see the point in having a laptop with such a small hard drive and a tablet too. It would be one or the other for me.
What you need to do is decide what you actually are looking for to suit your needs. List things in order of priorities and start again...but stay on this actual thread. Creating new threads about the same subject, tends to put me (and perhaps others) off replying.
By this post, it sounds as if you want something portable and lightweight....of course, I could be wrong, so you need to specify.
From what I can gather from this thread, and other threads that you have posted, is that your needs are really for basic browsing, and not a lot else.
You also need to research a bit more on your own, before repeatedly coming back with the same questions. Am talking about Mifi and internet dongle here, in particular. No matter how many people tell you that you are better off with MiFi, you are still questioning what is the cheapest between dongle and MiFi. This is nonsensical. You need to do research on who is the cheapest with good coverage in the area(s) in which you will need to use mobile internet.0

Nifty Digits - Thanks, I'll have to research more on the prices.
Anne Marie - I'm actually looking for something to do searches, matched betting and possibly watch some movies and that type of thing. I would prefer to purchase something approximately £200. I can't afford to spend a lot as I'm currently out of work.0

Sounds as if you are just needing a basic laptop then. Is weight important?
Do you need to have a DVD player for watching movies, or are you planning on watching online, or via usb stick/hard drive, or indeed stored on the hard drive of the laptop?0

I haven't owned a laptop before, I'm only used to a desktop computer, so I'm finding it quite difficult to know what to go with. I'd prefer a laptop that isn't too heavy but don't really want to compromise on the quality. I've never watched movies online, or via usb stick/hard drive. I think I'd prefer the laptop to have a DVD player incase I wanted to use it instead of the television DVD player, like say if I was away somewhere.0

You could always get a lightweight laptop and a separate DVD writer.
With a price range of around £200, if you want something with internal optical drive, I suspect that you will need to look at refurbished.0
