sorry to jump on thread but surely proof of posting doesnt prove it has been delivered?

    or am i being stupid

I'm not saying that it is proof of being delivered

Just quoting from my own experience that about once a month i get a "the item hasn't arrived" email.

When i have emailled back saying that i obtained proof of posting and can send email a picture of the proof of posting, without fail all the items have then arrived by the next email:rolleyes:

Hi, would you use recorded delivery for low price items, say under £10?
    thanks

im confused here,. are you guys saying ,.. refund the money 1st then claim back of royal mail ??

if so then ill have to disagree, RM sent a letter to the buyer asking them if they received the item or not, so in the above sernario you already refunded him/her they could just simply reply to RM and say they got the item, and thats what they might do if they really got the item in the 1st place,

and if anyone is claiming its best not to tick Ebay Item on the P58 form (claims for lost and damaged items)

as RM will give you what the item sold for not what it is worth,

if the item sold high, but they think its not worth that price, then they will give you the item vaule !

Justpaper..I'm a little confused by your post. You say that RM will only repay what the item sold for not what it was worth? Surely what it sold for on ebay is what it is worth ? If you try and claim for instance that your 99p item on ebay was actually worth £10 then surely that would be fraud.

You go on to say that they only give market value...regardless of what item sold for. However on my losses I have been paid out item cost purely by supplying my ebay invoice and link to ebay sales..no question asked.

Also, if you see my post 11 above you will see why you almost certainly don't get a chance to wait for RM to refund before you refund your buyer. If you treat paypal buyers and non paypal buyers differently then you have just demonstrated as clearly as possible why no one should ever buy on ebay without using paypal backed by a credit card.

that would be taking the pLss if you tryed to do that,

that didnt happen to me so i had to give more paper work, which they ended up paying out

i dont take payment by paypal so i dont treat any of my buyers differently as you know paypal cover them selfs, and i agree with what digerati is saying,

and in post 11 you said
At least refunding promptly, through gritted teeth if necessary usually results in positive feedback and no buyer complaints.
i post 40 ish items a week if do what you said based on 3 items a week my accountant would give me a slap, :rotfl:

of course if some one is a lite ebay user ,. taking payment by paypal and refunding promptly would suit them better,

If you are losing 3 items a week on 40 items posted then you have a major problem. You need to talk to RM promptly to find out why you are being targetted for losses. I had a very bad time about 2 Christmasses ago, RM were really helpful and tracked my stuff unofficially to see where it was getting lost and in the end they paid me extra compensation due to fraud issues within one of their sorting offices. Your level of losses is completely unacceptable and you need to do something about it fast.

I refund regardless of my current level of business, sometimes it has been considerably higher than 40 items a week, sometimes less it all depends. At the moment my losses are running at somewhere between 1:400-1:700 parcels which is still slightly higher than the RM published figures.

I use recorded delivery for all items I send under £35 - £40 (even though I know this only allows you to claim a max. of £34!)... I sold something at £1.25 plus £1.20 P&P and still sent it first class recorded.
Everything above £35 - £40 gets sent via Special Delivery.

I've had a few items go missing and never got a refund from Royal Mail
So each time I've refunded the buyer, almost always without waiting for RM to respond to me.

Recently, just before all this strike nonsense, I sent something SD that hasn't been delivered? certainly hasn't been signed for - RM are trying to fob me off by saying..
'as the receipient hasn't replied they will assume it was delivered'
:rotfl: I THINK NOT  I at least want the £4.75 I paid for the service refunded, am I entitled to this? Sorry to butt in a bit on the thread! :o
    The £2.00 Coin Savers Club = approx £22.00  :j.. The 20p Savers Club = £17.80.

I really think its down to dishonest ebay buyers, trying fast ones on low vauled sales,. ive moved over to ebid now, and the plan is to sell for 3weeks then do the chasing up for payments on the 4th week,

interesting about the unofficially tracking, will have to give RM a ring if it happens again with ebid,
