The best way to use my boiler?

Hi all,

I've just moved into a rented property and have a Ferroli Modena 80e Combi boiler. I've looked through the manual and I'm wondering if it is best to leave the boiler switched on continuously with programmed settings turning the heating on and off when required, or, is it best to turn the boiler on and off manually myself? Does either way make any difference to the consumption?

Thanks

If your automatic timings are for the same length of time as your manual timings, then there will be no difference.

If you switch off the boiler, how do you get hot water?

    It's a Ferroli, I doubt it's very sophisticated.
This time of year, I would just set the timer to off all the time.
If you feel cold, hit the BOOST button.

No boost button? Keep the programmer ON, turn the room thermostat up and down.

Yes, to maximise gas savings, switch it off and leave it off...
Manually will cost less, but you'll lose the whole point of a programmable automatic CH system. And wake up (and come in) to a cold house.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
