Seems Woman don't have it all !!

"The Policing Board was told today that only 20% of women who apply to the force pass the fitness test. "

Should the fitness tests be relaxed a bit for the "fairer sex" or is it a case of you can't have your cake and eat it????

Anyone got any experience of the PSNI Fitness tests and are they really that hard? Apparently over 90% of men pass them and I can't imagine all those men are examples of fitness perfection when you see some of the PSNI officers around the streets....

I feel that if you really want the job (whether you are a male or a female)you will find out what the fitness test entails and make sure that your fitness is up to that level. I am sure the fitness level of existing Officers is checked on a regular basis.

My sister failed a recent one, it is quite tough for a girl, she put a lot of effort into it with preperation etc but it wasn't to be. Fitness isn't really an issue for her as she plays rugby for a higly rated team.

As others have said there are a fair amount of out of shape officers out and about who would never get through this test.

would you, or does she, think the fitness test for woman should be different to that for the men? Just curious what she thought!

At the end of the day they do need a female presence but at what cost? Maybe there are certain bits of the tests could be relaxed due to the fact woman do tend to have less muscle mass and are generally not as physically strong as men...

I think common sense would say that physically men and women should not be measured equally, that's not sexist statement it's just the fact that we are physically different.

She didn't cite that she wanted it downgraded but felt it was demotivating having to wait for nineteen others to do theirs and to watch them coming out of the test drained or in a negative state of mind.

That only makes sense if you give them different roles, if they'll potentially be faced with the same situation that requires a certain level of fitness/strength to deal with then relaxing the test for a woman officer is potentially putting her at greater risk.

I don't agree, the fitness of many serving police officers leaves a lot to be desired and if the barometer is as high for women as it is for men we are going to continue to have a male dominated force.

What happened to equality? There should be a test, and it should be the same for both genders. They both have to do the same job.
Also, without the benefit of seeing the video:
"The Policing Board was told today that only 20% of women who apply to the force pass the fitness test. "
Um, how many men pass? 20%? Non-story.

Actually I think it's around 90% from what I heard on the radio....
