Payday Loan??!

Hi All,

My partner had an email from a company called MotorMile Finance about an outstanding PayDay loan. She has never had a payday loan in her life.

She replied to the email saying please remove my details from your records thinking it was a scam. She has since heard back from them today form a Sharon Garlick.

The contents basically said
"Before any information can be disclosed or discussed please complete the following Data protection questions within the next 7 days. Full Name, First Line of Address and postcode, DOB and confirm your email address."

Naturally we have given none of these details over yet but has anyone else recieved anything like this? Can anyone help as it is worrying my partner.

Thanks
James

First thing is to check her credit files to see if there is a debt on there.

If there's no mention of it on the credit file, your gf writes to them saying its not her, basically send the prove it letter.

It asks the recipient to prove the sender is liable for the debt.

    Google for a template letter.

That looks like a good idea, unfortunately it would mean giving them our address, which im guessing they dont have because they emailed us rather than sent a letter through the post.

    What do you think?

Yeah, I'd reply back saying you want it in writing, but don't give them any details.

    Something like

    "Hi,
I'm only willing to deal with this via written correspondence, please contact me in writing.
    Regards,
    First-Name-Only"

It's unusual for this to have been done via email, so it really does just sound like a scam and should have been ignored.

I do agree with it does sound a bit odd, somoneone has either used her email address or its a scam, I bet its the former myself.

I take it the email address after the @ was mmile.com ?

We are one of the leading debt purchase companies in the UK, specialising in buying short term loans.

It would therefore appear that MotorMile Finance are not themselves a PDL, they are a DRA that buys defaulted PDLs. Where a DRA buys in a loan due from a 'Jane Smith' who has gone AWOL, they will frequently contact every Jane Smith they can find in the hope that one of them is the actual Jane Smith they are after.

    I see.

Well we have checked her credit score and she has had nothing since a late credit card payment back in 2010.

She has never taken out a payday loan.

So im guessing it is what you are saying, they are just spamming every person they can find with her name till they get a hit.

To the other person that said about writing the letter, how would i get proof from them if i dont give them my postal address lol.

    Regards

    That's the point.

If they hold proof of the debt, they will hold an address.
