Could you do some of that yourself and save some money?

stripping wallpaper is pretty simple, just wet it down, let the water soak in and scrape it off. Just be careful with the scraper as you won't want to damage the walls .

We have just had our hall, stairs and landing done. Quote was for painting 7 doors, both sides, removing embossed painted paper, making good plaster where necessary, walls and ceiling emulsioned (didn't need lining as in better condition than expected)all other wood work. Painter cut round edge of carpet to make it easier to paint skirting as we were having new. Quote we accepted was for £980 and he did a great job. Had other quotes from local firms ranging from £2000 - £3000. The £3000 was + VAT. We were in shock when these came. Emailed round friends to ask for any recommendations and got the number of the man we used. He's coming back to do our bedroom in a month.

Great idea. Stripping paper is not difficult, just boring. Tune in to your favourite radio station, hire a paper stripper for the weekend, and gets lots of black bags for the stuff you take off the walls.

Papering the stairs can be difficult as it's awkward to reach. In my last house, the only walls I did not paper myself were on the stairs (although I stripped them OK).

On another note. Why do people always think Dulux is decent. Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Because they have a nice dog.
