    Also, if your mum will be downsizing, make sure there will be sufficient on instant access to pay deposits etc, so that you don't have to lose interest by taking money from any fixed rate accounts.

    The only comment I would make is thatnifn entire sum due to yiur mum was paid into a single savings account, that will be way above the £85,000 comoensation level should the bsnk fai. And she may want to consider splitting it up into separaten safe amiunts in different banks to protect herself
