halifax cashcard account

Several years ago I was advised by Halifax employee that cashcard accounts were being discontinued. I was advised to close my account and open a current account. I did this in good faith, now I have recieved a letter from Halifax which states that that my account is still ongoing and explaining all the services they can provide. Have I been duped into opening a current account? Paying monthly charges e.t.c. anyone else been told an account is being discontinued inthis way?

I have been dealing with Halifax for my mother who is a pensioner.
She was told her stardard account was no longer available and they upgraded her to a visa debit account with a £15 monthly charge.
She has been paying this for many years now,I have helped her write a letter of complaint to Halifax head office and as a result last week she was fully refunded plus interest.

Banks try this, Santander did this with my mother and her old cash account was still available.

I still have my Cash card account, mainly because you cannot have an overdraft on this type of account. I understand the bank is no longer allowing customers to open these types of account, but I have not been asked to close mine.

They told you that to get you to open the current account as they would have got credit for that account . Your old card cash account was not closed off properly so is still open , probably with a zero balance .

Halifax withdrew Cardcash for over 18 year olds some time ago. Maybe it was a misunderstanding on the staff member as it was no longer available to apply for.
If you don't like the account you can come off it and convert to another one at any time.
