Debenhams messes up credit card, violation of data protection?

Hi,
Any advice is welcome, as I don't know what to do, but I'm deeply disturbed by this.
A few days ago I went into Debenhams, bought something and was offered their credit card and a 10% discount. I decided to apply, on my maiden name and as reference they took a debit card from my own bank account.
Today, my husband received a credit card from debenhams on HIS name! The point being, how can they issue a credit card on someone's name without them ever signing anything for it?
I was the one who applied, so at some point in their database they accessed my husbands details, so I'm wondering if this can be a violation of the data protection act? How did they have his details?
This means they can simply go to any database and issue zillions of credit cards with no authorisation whatsoever!
What should I do?

Just a quick question, how come you applied using your maiden name instead of your married name? Does he also have a card or access to the account you gave a card for?Weight Loss - 102lb0

I dont think that was the kind of advice that was required!Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
I just got married a few weeks ago, so I still use my maiden name. Nowhere in the application was he mentioned at all, which is why I think it is disturbing.
And as I said, the card they used for id purposes was my own bank account, held in a different bank to where we have our joint account.0 -
I take it he has not applied for a Debenham card recently? if not then you need to make a formal complaint (usually best sent to the CEO), as what you describe is a breach of the Data Protection Act and the Consumer Credit Act. Under the latter, it is unlawful to send out unsolicted credit cards. James0

Thats odd then, I thought that maybe he was on the account or something for it to have linked you. Have you got a copy of the form that you filled out in store when you opened the account? I would give them a ring and see what they have to say for themselves!Weight Loss - 102lb0

That's what I thought. I've called repeatedly, and so has my husband. Obviously, though, people at call centres have no idea what to say...0
