I really don't get this my debt is bigger than yours thing because it's all so relative to income etc. Someone's debt of £100K may be less significant than someone else's £10K due to disparity in circumstances.

Please let's celebrate everyone's success equally and not make it bigger and more is best.

What you say is true, I agree, but that issue aside, I think MSE Andrea is just looking for the highest figure someone has repaid, nothing to do with debt in relation to income, with respect, that wasn't the question.

The highest debt was MrsCMR and on her sig it states she was £581,000 in debt and is now debt free.
    House renovation savings £25,000/£25,000

I guess it depends whether or not people include their mortgage.

Normally it does not include a mortgage unless they are in arrears
  • A mortgage is very much a debt so seems reasonable to include it. I certainly would!

I doubt someone had £581k of unsecured debt! Unless they had a substantial income far in excess of that number!

    I repaid just under £50,000.

It took about five and a half years through a DMP with CCCS/Step Change.

I think everyones progress and achievements are amazing! First step is admitting your problem and then working towards it is amazing! We all have different backgrounds so those who are unemployed trying to pay off short amount compared to those with high pay and paying off thousands.

We are all in this together and working hard :) long may it pay off :P x

Totally agree with Mrs TTFTM sentiments.

I cleared £59214 debt and £5871 interest totalling £65085 in full using a DMP, initially with SC and then self managed. Took four years and three months and I couldn't have done it without this place and support from the debt free wanabees threads.

  • The £581k is eyewatering..........im at 40k and even then im spending £1700 a month on it? £581k even with no interest would be crazy repayments, away to read through some of that thread
