There's lots of things to do that are MSE...we could go into the Winter Gardens which is being restored, we can go into the Tower (going up to the top or into the Ballroom will cost though), there are 3 piers (North pier is best for walking along & enjoying the views, the others have funfairs on), South Promenade is fab for walking along & always quiet ;), Pleasure Beach costs £5 to walk around now

Ditto Mancbird re the £5. I am sure I am not the only one who figured out you were from Manchester.

Sounds lovely. Can anyone do midweek? One weekend is my mothers 70th and the other I'm meeting my half sister who I haven't seen in more than 20 years!

I have no problems with midweek. I have worked out I will be at the Christie on 5th May otherwise I am free every day. I don't even need to go into town to get a bus to Preston then another from Preston to Blackpool.

Softstuff as you are only here a couple of weeks I think you ought to pick the day. How do we recognise each other? I have visions of looking for a little tiger and a very tall rainbow cake.

Let me double check with mum if she has any plans, and I'll propose a few dates. I'm not dressing up as Hobbes though. Nor will I be wearing a hat with corks on it and carrying a crocodile.

Yikes  fortunately I'll be installing the kitchen. Late last night in bed I was giving serious consideration to learning to drive an earthmover and build retaining walls:rotfl:

Speaking of driving, after 10 years here and not driving, I'm starting again. Supervised, a half hour at a time, but I think I'll get there. Pretty pleased with myself.

In Australia the biggest problem for kids is getting sunburned and being inadequately protected. Makes me , they're setting their kids up for skin cancer in the future when they're too young to be able to choose themselves.

Anyone fancy a meet up end April/beginning of May? I can get to blackpool on a bus.

DD1 used to put so much suncream on DGS that he was as pale as a wraith :D but she said, listening to other mums at the nursery gate, that some of them genuinely believed babies don't get sunburnt  so weren't putting any suncream on their littl'uns at all!

Of course you should learn to drive an earthmover Softstuff, it would be brilliant fun :D

nursemaggie I suspect your lack of storage space is a lot more frustrating than my elastic, except that it means I'll probably have to get the iron and ironing board out just to turn back an edge on the casing.

There's a lovely lady called GreyQueen who posts on the "When the SHTF" thread who lives in a tiny flat, it might be worth asking her how she manages with virtually no storage space (though to be fair, I think that's by having as little stuff as possible!).

GQ seems to have disappeared. She posts on Not Buying it and Make do Mend and Minimise. We have discussed it. I think our main difference is there is only one of her and there are two of us. Thus two plates, two cups, two lots of towels and bedding. God knows how they manage opposite us they have three kids.

I shall solve one problem when I can put up two shelves next year but it is driving me mad not being able to get at my pans. Trouble is DS disappears before you can say that pan and that one. He is gone before the second one and he has forgotten about lids. He does not understand why you need lids for some things and not others. He also thinks you can cook a chicken without a roasting tin.

He went to work early on Sunday before I could ask for a roasting tin. We do have minimum stuff. I am trying hard to make everything do two jobs, I thought that was what make do meant not what they all seem to think, making do with leftovers. After all, if you have leftovers you created them. I never have left overs. I cook exactly what we need.
