Closing A Credit Card Down

Hi all,

I currently have 2 credit cards: 1 with Tesco and 1 with Debenhams.

I mainly use the Tesco credit card. I rarely use the Debenhams credit card. I think I only opened it because I was buying £400 worth of clothes about 2 years ago and I was told I could save 10% if I opened up a Debenhams card. I always pay my monthly statement off each time on both cards (if I have used the Debenhams one too).

If I cancelled the Debenhams credit card, would it cause an issue? Would it affect my credit rating or anything like that?

Apologies in advance if this question sounds really thick, I am not at all clever when it comes to these things.

Thanks to anyone who might be able to help.

Not an issue to cancel it. But a back up card is always a good idea.

Perhaps look for a better alternative as a second card.

I would have a back-up, but try to get one that offers some sort of incentive, cash-back etc, and it wont have much of an impact on anything if you close debenhams.

as for the debenhams one, you could do as i do and open one up just before Christmas each year and close it in January, then can get another one in time for christmas and their usual 10% offer when opening a new account.
  • I suspect the Tesco card is a Visa and the Debenhams one is a MasterCard. If so, I suggest it is best to keep both as it is always a good idea to have one of each.

Your point has merit but Tesco haven't issued Visa on new accounts for quite a number of years. They've even shifted some of their Visa portfolio over to MasterCard.

Is the OP's Tesco credit card Visa branded?
