many thanks for all the replies.
  • Only thing you could try is (if you feel confident enough) flush the system yourself(before you start make sure you know which brand inhibitor the previous person treated your system with), securly attatch a hose to the drain off valve and run it outside, open the valve and after a few min open the air bleeds on the upstairs rads, make sure it is sucking in water then after a while open the downstairs bleeds and wait until the water stops, then close all air bleeds and open your filling loop (make sure the pressure on the front of your boiler or expansion vessel doesnt rise about 1.5 ba so as not to damage it) and leave it for a while, then go around and close your trv's off, check water runs clean then open one trv, again check the water then runs clean, if not just wait until it does, then close tht trv and open another one and repeat the process (can take a while) also while flushing with hose on you could hit the problem rad with a soft rubber mallet or something similar to try dislodge any debris, what i do sometimes is have the boiler running on central heating mode whilst flushing, do this only if you feel confident tho and again ensure the pressure stays around the 1.5bar mark. Once that is done fill up the system (turn the drain valve off, fill up the system and bleed the vents) then run the system so it all heats up and then drain it off again, then put inhibitor back in (MAKE SURE IT IS THE SAME BRAND AS USED BEFORE) and see how it does. I have before taken the problem radiator off, gone to the car pressure washer at the supermarket and blasted all the crap out, got covered in foam and soaked but it worked! if all that doesnt work then it will almost certainly piped up incorrectly. My hand is now tired from all typing but hope this helps you!;)

Good morning: No TRVs? Surprised your installer didn't recommend and install on all rads except one in area where room thermostat is located (Basic Practice p. 4 )http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/uploads/documents/housingbuildings/CE51%20Final.pdf

Has the installation been notified to Building Control and have you received a 'Declaration of Safety' certificate? If you haven't, then the repositioning of your boiler doesn't conform to Building Regs and yet another incompetent/illegal 'installer' stays in business.

Good evening: See my link to previous post http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=5955671&postcount=9 and read info on the CORGI site. You could also visit you local council website for more info on Building Regs/ notifications OR
the Planning Portal website interactive guide http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/hhg/houseguide.html
Bottom line...the installation must be notified...if you plan to sell your property lack of the document could impede the sale and renting it out is another story.
And on that note, I'll leave you to it !
