London Tourist

Hi Everybody

My partner has never been to London but I want to take them this year to see some of the sights and attractions, the zoo, the eye, the shard, madame tussauds, tower of London, the bridge etc etc.

In true MSE style .. what is the cheapest way to go about this? We will train into London and stay in a hotel for 2 nights (3 days to see the sights) .. not worried about cheapest train tickets/hotels as I got that covered but it's the actual attractions, is the London Pass generally seen as good value or are there better ways to do it?

Many Thanks

I would decide which attractions are the ones you really want to see. Some are expensive and very overrated( so check reviews:http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractions-g186338-Activities-London_England.html). If you have the money to see them all (Roughly £20 per person/per ticket) then just go for it and look for some deals. If money is tight, pick a few key ones.

-Some train companies (Run by national rail) offer 2for1 tickets: http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/2for1-london
(I've used it for the zoo)
-Lots of free things in London: National Gallery, British Museum, Natural history museum, Science museum, Museum of London. I have spent nearly all day in these places as there is a lot to see.
-Food: eat a chains you know. Garfunkel's has always been good (one in Trafalgar square and Kensington(near national gallery and Natural History/ Science museum). I would recommend you google a few destinations and then look for restaurants near by. Food in the Museums is always very expensive!! I have bought meal deals from Tesco and just carry it around and eat when convenient .

I can't think of anything else at the moment...

The 2x1 deals are much better than London pass, you can download them from the website above or pick them up at the train station, and the train tickets you have will probably be valid. You will need to show both tickets to get the discount, so keep them when you arrive in London.

You can find lots of food deals here:

Eating is not expensive as the options are endless in central London, personally I try something new everytime I go, but that's up to your taste.

Visiting London isn't quite the same as Going Out - maybe you should be asking on the UK Holidays Board instead?

Get an oyster card and travel everywhere on the top deck of a bus- you'll see tons more than using the tube.

Getting to the shard/London Bridge from the west end is easier than it looks - catch any train from Charing Cross and you're there in two stops/5 minutes (this isn't shown on any tube map).

It's the first FAQ on the list...you didn't search very hard.

So you can use a Travelcard purchased from Marylebone mainline ticket office (not Marylebone tube station).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

This hardly seems appropriate for the Going Out Board? - The UK Holidays and Public Transport already covers most of this in some depth.

if you've already found some places to go, there are also lots of really nice restaurants & pubs as Indian Lounge Restaurant, Painted Heron, Baiwei and others
