PV panels in West Yorks - £8k for 2.5kw

Can anyone recommend a solar panel company in West Yorkshire that we can try, please. We've had a couple of quotes but I just want to get another quote or two to see if we can get a better deal.

We've been told we can fit 10 panels on our roof so are looking at buying a 2.5kw system. We face SSE with no shading and no velux windows.

We've had two recent quotes - both around £8000 with a one-time only £1000 discount if we had signed up during the appointment (which we didn't do). I'm thinking these quotes are quite high for this size system - but then they are both almost the same so maybe that's the going rate round here.

Thanks for any suggestions

My advice is get more than one or two quotes because the quotes you have are around twice the price you should be expecting to pay!
    Flippin cowboys...they're everywhere!!!

Post your location(town) and you may get a better response, W yorks is a big place

You could also consider higher capacity panels. More expensive per panel but you could get to about 3.25kWp, or perhaps more nowadays. It's a long time since I was looking at panels but others will know.

I'm in Halifax and used local company Solarlex (.co.uk).

    I'll happily recommend them.

Thanks Pinnks - neither company mentioned higher capacity panels as an option - I'll ask about that possibility with the next quote/s we get.

Groovyf - thanks for the recommendation - we'll give them a try.

When I was looking I got quotes for Sundowner panels which were 327Wp and Benq which were about the same. I decided not to spend the extra - quite a bit from memory - as I could get my 3.6 max with 250Wp panels.

Now that I have extended my system it would have been good to have been able to completely max out at about 7.5 kWp on my available roof space compared with my 5.25 with normal panels.

Hindsight is such a wonderful thing...

That's scary high priced. My 2kWp extension, with £40 power optimisers on each panel (got some shade problems) was £4k back in Summer 2012.

Smaller systems are trickier to guesstimate prices, but perhaps £3.5k for 2.5kWp?? Certainly not £8k.

Regarding local prices, whilst I'm a Cardiff boy, the installer(s) travelled down from Rochdale, your neck of the woods.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

One more thing, do you have any other rooves? For some reason...some installers don't like to quote for any roof that doesn't point in the right direction. Do you maybe have WSW?

Unfortunately not - we just have 2 sides to our roof along a central ridgeline, so 2nd side will be NNW.

Thanks very much everyone for your replies - I've got a 3 companies now that have been recommended so I'll give them a go and see what I get.
