Online grocery shopping
Options
I always do the bulk of my grocery shopping online via Asda, mainly things like boxes of cat food, cat litter and cleaning products which are heavy to carry. I buy my fresh stuff as I need it.
How many of you here do online shopping? Do you find it more economical? Sometimes I feel tempted to just shop as I need for everything but then again boxes of cat food, cat litter and cleaning products can be heavy and with two cats I need quite a few boxes of food.
Which do you find the cheapest online shop? I usually use Asda, used to use Sainsburys, have had another look at Sainsburys and at Tesco but they seem a bit more expensive. Tesco has the cat litter I prefer but their stuff in general seems to cost more.

Hello
I have tried tesco on line shopping for 6 months. I had a voucher deal.
I have now gone back to shopping in the store once a week as I much prefer to look for yellow stickers and coupon shop.
I always have a shopping list. Often look at savvy buys on "my supermarket".
I look on the Tesco web site too! By the time I walk around the store I have a good idea of what to pick up = brand, size and price. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
I use asda. I have a delivery pass for £5 a month ... it would cost me £4.50 to have it delivered once at the time that suits me! I get 4 or 5 deliveries for that one £5.
the main reason I shop online is that I live about a 45/60minute drive from a couple of BIG supermarkets, 30 minutes from a reasonable sized supermarket and now, do have a lidl about 15 mins drive away, but what with working and children etc, I don't always have the time to get there! we have a weekly market and a small co op so I do get fresh veg and fruit from the market when I can ( not always possible due to work commitments ), and top up from co op! we get potatoes, eggs and some meat from local farmers
I do miss wandering around a supermarket and getting new ideas, and I do miss the 'yellow stickers' , but it would cost me more in time and petrol to save a few pennies on my shopping!0 -
I started using Asda about a year ago, when the 2 local supermarkets were closed for refurbishment/change of store.
Plus points - the majority of heavy shopping is brought to my door by pleasant delivery drivers, it makes me feel slightly righteous to have my weeks shopping delivered and packed away by 10am on a Saturday.
Minus points - substitutions - I often lose out on the deals eg 3 for £10 as the substituted item is not in the deal.
Missing items - last week, my frozen was not on the van, I was given someone else's but spotted it on the doorstep. Hence, had to top up in Waitrose for 50% more than the Asda price - EEK!.
I miss hunting out Yellow Stickers.
Sometimes you win! - was not charged for alcohol one week - guess the picker was under 18 so needed a 2nd authorisation (somehow the tobacco was charged for??) and it just went through.
We have a Lidl opening soon near the office, it may change my shopping ways - yet for £5 for a month of free Asda delivery (£40+), I will probably stick with them for the heavy and basic stuff, and definitely the weekend meals.0 -
Hi,
I do Asda every week, spending a lot less than i did instore. My nearest store is 20 miles away so i couldn't take the car there for the price of my delivery.
I have used tesco a few times but i found them more expensive than asda, Haven't tried sainsburys as i find them really expensive instore.
regards:j0 -
I've never done my grocery shopping online. I simply don't trust them to send the right things with no substitutions, and not send me stuff right on it's use by date.
Also, I don't do a "big" grocery shop, I keep a running list and when there's a few items that I can get from one place (I use @ldi, T£sco and M0rries), then I shop. Also, I get all my cheese, eggs, bread flour and honey at the farmers market, and F&V from the market stall.
So for the fairly small amount I get from the supermarkets, it's not worth the delivery charges.
Add to that, the fact that I am disabled, and retired on medical grounds; unless I have a dog staying with me, there are some weeks I wouldn't leave the house at all if I didn't go and get my groceries myself! If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I have a £5delivery pass with Asda so use them every week, much cheaper than Tesco and sainsburys. It's also cheaper for me to online shop because if I went in store to do it it would cost me a fortune:)I will lose 2 stone by this summer!!!!!!0

I rarely shop online. I don't use supermarkets much anyway, but I want to be able to see & feel what I'm getting.
Only time I do is when I have a party and think I'll get them to deliver the basics.
When I had small children, DH used to do a once a month run to Kwiksave (anyone remember them?) to stock up on basics, and I had a great greengrocer's shop where I could park outside to pick up supplies (not too many of them left now either!)
Now I am happy to shop at the market - and if I have a big fruit & veg order, I can pull up alongside the stall just to load up.0 -
Hi, we move threads if we think they’ll get more help elsewhere (please read the forum rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board. I would also use Mysupermarket, tried it for the first time last week and tesco was around £7 cheaper, using the app and seeing whats on offer. Personally i think it would change week by week, as supermarket offers do, but the app/site will help shows where is cheaper at the time0
