But thats because of YOUR circumstances. NOT necessarily the Ops. As has been said repeatedly. It all depends on your circumstances.

Where I come from, its adequate for any single person in a flat.

    Hence my post #3
Depends where you live, what you have to pay each month etc

Also what you are earning now.

The OP hasn't given us any info on this

have a look here and it will give a rough idea of income distribution. and although there are obviously millionaires in the top 5%, I wouldn't be surprised if to get into the top 5% you don't have to earn anything like a million £/year.

If I select live alone, I earn more than 65% of people

If I live with a partner, I earn more than 36% of people

    A bit confusing!

I could live quite happily on that wage. I'm single, but could afford to rent in a nice area (Northumberland), pay off my debts and save up a nice sum too.

The average salary in the UK is £23,000, so almost half of the population earn less.

Very odd as on JSA it says

you have a higher income than around 1% of the population - equivalent to about 0.6 million individuals.

It explains how it takes into consideration the net household equivalised income on the page it shows 'your position' and the graph.

According to that I earn more than 94% of the population and I am by no means rich.

you have a higher income than around 98% of the population - equivalent to about 61.6 million individuals.

wowwwwwwwwwwwwww - BUT that is a bit silly as the only question about expenditure was the amount of CT

ops, they ask for income after tax so recalculated and still
you have a higher income than around 97% of the population - equivalent to about 61.0 million individuals.

It is about equivalised income not that your salary figure on its own is higher than 97% of the population.
