New Build Developments - "Affordable Housing" - Offputting?

Often the social housing (let's not call it affordable - anything is affordable when other people are paying for it) is built to a better standard, at least in terms of room space. Normally vs. private starter homes or flats. There certainly used to be minimum standards, think there may still be.

But usually it gets out on the least attractive part of the site.

The whole thing is ridiculous really; we would barely need to subsidise housing if councils actually gave planning permission sufficient for people to build their own homes. It is that most pernicious of things, an 'invisible tax', along with the various section 106 nonsense.

It's like the government has created an artificial scarcity of food, and then whacked a great big tax on baking bread. Social lunacy.
