Aqua Card Accepted Me Then Declined Me. HELP

Hello, Im new to this,

I am currently trying to rebuild my credit score. It is really low as in the past I have defaulted on many things and had CCJs all of which were over 10 years ago.

I had a letter from Vanquis to apply for guaranteed acceptance....I was reluctant but I applied and I now have a Vanquis. Shocked at this (because of my poor rating) I checked Experian and Checkmyfile (apparently checkmyfile is the better one my bank manager told me)

I have no debts. No defaults. No CCJs. It is basically a fresh start. I checked my eligibility for other cards and Aqua on MSE said a 90% chance of acceptance so I applied.

Instantly I was accepted for the Aqua Reward Card.
Then a few days later I received my pin. Then yesterday I received a letter saying they have stopped the use of my card an to cut it up......ive not even received it yet.

Im not too bothered that I wasnt successful, but a little annoyed that this will be on my credit file now. The only reason I applied was because of the 90% acceptance chance.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Sorry I went around the bush to get to my point

It happens from time to time. But I'd give them a call to understand more in case there is anything you need to be concerned about.

I called them yesterday and They were not very helpful. Just said It was a computer Error. But yet it still says 90% acceptance for the card. Vanquis on the other hand says 50% acceptance.

I hope I havent done anything to further lower my score. I have paid off my vanquis in full and its not due until 28th march. So thats good right??

That's fine. Always pay off before the due date, but only after your statement has been produced.

Ignore the score. It's not real and not seen by anyone. The single aqua search won't cause any long term problems.

Ignore your bank manager's assertion that checkmyfile is the best...it isn't, as a read of their T&Cs would tell you.

There really is no better way (in terms of value and quality) than to go direct to CRAs.

Ive not read the T&C but it does show my alot more information.

I have a lower score on Checkmyfile.
And a higher one on Experian

All this is confusing to me. Im sure I will understand soon.

checkmyfile takes limited information from Experian, as is explained in their T&Cs.

But 2 things you need to do...

    1. Start reading T&Cs
    2. Stop wasting money on 'scores'

I would request them to remove the search entry also if there was an error while you applied.

The computer is only as good or bad as the information keyed in.
Sounds a tall story to me.

There are 3 CRA's and they can each have different information about you, depending on who reports to them.

For the best picture of your credit file, its worth checking all 3.
CallCredit can be checked for free using noddle. Experian and Equifax you can get your reports for £2 each, or you could make sure of their free trail if you havn't already.

CheckMyFile will check all 3, but has limited information (which is why its best to go direct).

If there wasn't a problem and you were just rejected straight away, it will still show the search on your file

If you already have a Vanquis card, this may be why they turned you down, maybe not but it could why.
