Compound Chocolate

Yuck I didn't know what this stuff was until last Saturday. I picked up some Baron dark chocolate with hazelnut truffle centre it was in individual bars 10 in each box from a 99p store. OMG it was awful compound choc is just lots of vegetable fats and oil hydrogenated in this certain box with some cocoa solids and flavouring. Never ever again will I buy anything that is compound choc ever.

I didn't know about it until I read your post!

How do you know it's compound chocolate? Do you have to look on the back of the packet at the ingredients list, or does it say so on the front?

On the back of the box it read dark compound chocolate. Im informed most of Kinnerton chocolate is compound too.

My minstrels also contain palm fat, my Cadbury's Dairy Milk contains Shea and Palm fats (under 'vegetable fats') - is this news?

BTW for probably the purest commercial chocolate, try Bendicks Bittermints - only 5 ingredients and absolutely brilliant
