Groomer cut fur too short, how to keep him warm?

I have a bedlington whippet cross. I live his fur a bit longer in the winter to keep him protected from the cold. He has the curly Bedlington fur, but the body of a whippet.

Unfortunately the groomer I take him to has cut his fur quite short and I'm now wondering how to make sure he's keeping warm. I do have a coat which he wears on really cold days, but I'm concerned about nighttime when I'm asleep.

Anyone any advice?

While his fur grows back couldn't you just put his coat on at night? or does he associate that with 'walkies'? You can purchase 'Dog knitwear' or if you can knit there are free patterns online.
  • I was thinking about putting his coat on. Not sure whether he would associate it with walkies as he only wears it when it's quite cold. Might give it try and see what he thinks.

I can't knit, but will have a look online.

    Thanks ☺

  • Does anyone know how to measure my dog for a knitted coat? My friend said she will knit one for me.

    Get his inside leg measurement!

The pattern should give an indication where the measurements are needed from...but I would imagine it would be something like 1st along the spine from just behind where the collar rests on the neck to the base of the tail. 2nd around the tops of the front legs. 3rd distance between front legs and 4th around the body behind the front legs...

If you get a couple of cheap fleece blankets and drape them over his basket, I'm sure he'll manage to make himself a cosy nest under them. I bet he looks adorable by the way - there's something about a skinny shivery dog that makes you want to just cuddle them!
