British Bed Stores - Problems?

Hi All,

I bought a new mattress from British Bed Stores on 27th January, on a 3-5 delivery. I received an e-mail within a few days to say that the delivery company didn't have it in stock and it would take two weeks. I agreed to hold on.

Then, they couldn't arrange a convenient date and time for delivery, despite me explaining the days and times we could do and being told 'no problem'. The latest date suggested was this coming Friday, 6th March - we couldn't do this (and it wasn't on the list of days we gave them!) but getting fed up with it had arranged for a family member to sit in for the delivery.

I've now received a text from the delivery company saying "Dear customer, unfortunately your account is on hold due to accounts being closed with british beds stores we are sorry. Thankyou Furdeco"

From what I gather, BBS don't hold stock but sub out to this company, Furdeco.

I contacted Furdeco who said that the BBS account was on hold, and to contact BBS direct. I tried this but gave up after being on hold for an hour, the longest I can wait without paying for the call.

I've posted a message on their Facebook page, no answer yet.

I have since found a post on here saying that they previously traded as Bed Centre UK, who went bust. Oh dear :-(

Anyone else having trouble with this company? How can I find out if they have gone bust?

I'm so annoyed at myself because I was going to buy the mattress from The Sleep Shop, who are actually local to us and were a bit cheaper - but got sucked in by BBS' 30-day exchange guarantee.

I paid by credit card as I do with all large purchases. If they have gone bust, will I have any joy with them? It was a Halifax Clarity MasterCard.

Thanks,

Leccyblue.

If BBS account is hold it normally means that they haven't paid what's owed to Furdeco.

Ring BBS and find out what's going on then ring your credit card company.

  • Hi - I also bought a bed and mattrasss from british bed stores - paid by credit card (fortunately) - on 24 Jan 15. We were told today by Furdeco that the account with BBS was on hold they had sent all their beds back to BBS and we were to contact BBS directly - unfortulately they are not answering phonecalls, emails or anything else (live chat). was wondering if anyone knew what was happening and if we can claim the money back via the credit card company (Santander 123)

  • Hi All,

We ordered a bed 12 days ago (that was due to be delivered in 5 days).

No delivery arranged with in the timescales promised so called & complained.

Was advised it was arranged for yesterday (4 days after had been promised), waited in all afternoon & didn't arrive.

Spoke to Furdeco (BBS delivery company) who advised that they are no longer working with BBS as their account is in debt (I know some people had texts from Furdeco to cancel delivery but we didn't get this so waited in!).

Have tried contacting BBS in every way possible - no answer on phones since yesterday. No response to emails. Me & several family members have posted on their FB page & all posts quickly get deleted & we have all be blocked! Many disgruntled customers are posting on there, if you keep an eye on the page you will see the posts & then see them disappear...

I hear they used to trade as Bed Centre UK & went into liquidation... so I wouldn't have said things are looking good for us receiving our orders.

We have ben in touch with our credit card company who have refunded us in full.. thankfully. I would advise anybody who paid by CC to do the same pronto!

Hope everyone manages to recover their monies..

I have tried to contact BBS again today but again not answering phone calls or e-mails.

I've contacted Furdeco to see if we can pay them to deliver the mattress and keep the delivery slot - but they've said no and all stock going back to BBS.

I've posted on their FB page but the posts were deleted and security settings changed so no one can post.

I've sent a friend request to both directors, one has blocked me and the other not responded.

BBS is a trading name of Home Life Direct Limited (https://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/home-life-direct)

The directors names are Lawrence John Goldsmith and Andrew Watts. They have both been in business before with Bed Centre UK which liquidated (https://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/bed-centre-uk). The are also directors of Rear Gear Limited (https://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/rear-gear) and G.A.W.L. Digital Limited (https://www.kompany.co.uk/o/uk/lawrence+goldsmith) which was incorporated the day after British Bed Stores.

These people clearly don't give a stuff about their customers and are happy to screw us all over; it's looking very likely that the company is in serious financial difficulties and in the process of going bust; yet their website is still live and they are still taking orders.

I've contacted my credit card company this morning who have registered a dispute on the transaction but it will take time to investigate.

I too have a very similar experience with Furdeco scheduled to collect and replace a previously delivered damaged mattress this weekend. I've disputed the transaction with my credit card company and now find myself stuck with a marked and damaged mattress I don't want and that technically doesn't belong to me.

Does anyone have any idea what my options are?

It's official - BBS website now displaying a message saying they are no longer trading. The directors of this company should be ashamed of themselves and I hope to god they don't start up under a new name for the third time.

My credit card company have now refunded the money - I hope others are able to get theirs back too.

If your credit card company has refunded you then the mattress belongs to them.
Give them a call asking if they are going arrange for it to be collected from you, and if not, can you dispose of it.
Even though it might be damaged, I'm sure that if you put an advert in a newsagents window offering it for free, someone will take it off your hands.
