Don't Get Caught Out When Switching

I'm just in the process of switching energy suppliers from EDF to OV0 and have spent a frustrating hour on the phone, with EDF saying they hadn't received notification from OVO and OVO saying they had (and they emailed me documentation to prove it). In the meantime, they both manage to take monthly direct debits in the same month throwing me in the red! My advice: As soon as both parties agree a date in writing, check they are the same date and make sure you cancel the departing direct debit swiftly. You will no doubt get a refund but that they tell me takes 4 weeks.

You should not cancel Debits - you should simply save up and budget for two instalments for up to two months as part of the switching process.0

And they wonder why people don't switch....
I planned on switching in a month or two,
Good to know I will have to budget to pay 4 times in the first two months... Especially as I'm saving for a wedding as it is..
Maybe I'll have to wait until this time next year to switch (after the wedding) in order to be able to afford the actual switch...The state of the energy market is laughable.0 -
I got caught by this when switching to First Utility. They grabbed the first DD payment on the actual date of the switchover, even though they hadn't even supplier so much as 1kwH of energy. Since then they have reduced the monthly DD twice as their computer realises how much excess it has collected.0

My advice is do not follow this advice.
Edit: ...particularly where EDF are involved as the outgoing supplier!
