Writing to your MP

Hi
I've recently had an unfairly issued and probably illegal parking ticket from ParkingEye.
Has anyone had success in writing to their MP?
I feel that this is a matter far bigger than the small claims courts and something needs to happen higher up...
I know there are some big cases going through the Court of Appeals at the moment.
The collective voice of people on-line (I can see you are a very positive group) could make the difference to change the law and stop this abuse of the legal system happening altogether.
Any success so far?

I've had considerable success with my MP, she has taken great interest in the matter and has even promised to bring it up in the house if she survives the General Election. It helps that her husband has been a victim of the private parking scammers!Je suis Charlie.0

I wrote to my MP about these issues last year, got emails back, had some issues raised and debated last august or september in the HOC, plus a letter back too
also read fergies long thread about it and his MP, over apcoa , EA 2010 and his local trust
plenty here to read, if you look for it
good luck0 -
Writing to your MP is a good idea because it raises dissatisfaction with the issue where it counts.
However, for the practicalities of dealing with PE, you need to get stuck into the Newbies Sticky for the most up to date ways of seeing them-off.0 -
My MP didn't give a stuff. He believes these firms should set whatever conditions they want, and charge whatever they wish.
He'll be out in May.0 -

He may be one of David Taylor's buddies.

I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Pepipo is a motorists forum with plenty of good advice. Worked for me anyway. I'm not affiliated.0

One of the problems I found that it wasn't until I actually suggested we meet that the MP that I was actually talking to him, before that it was just one of his assistants.0

I went to see my MP. He initial response was that things had been improved by the current government and were now wonderful because clamping was now illegal. He tried to persist with that position and ignore the points I was making - commercial interests were very important to him. Basically, I felt he expected to give the normal politician response of saying nothing of substance other than his party were doing a splendid job. However, having made the effort to see him I would not let him put me off telling him politely what was wrong with the current situation including that as the ppcs were not being effectively 'policed' then ultimately ordinary people (including his constituents) were being forced into the court system. Finally, that point and because his lack of knowledge of the issues involved had become apparent, he suggested it would be sensible for a review to be carried out of how the legislation was operating, in particular the use being made of debt collection companies etc. Oh, and of course, he made the point that would only happen if his party won the next election. In other words the usual ploy of 'kicking the problem into the long grass'.
However, regarding my particular case rather than the general situation concerning how ppcs operated, what I will say for him is that he offered to write on my behalf to the landowner. Which (if I had needed him to do that) might have been useful. It could also have been instructive for him if his being an MP did not result in any alteration in the behaviour of the ppc.
I'm glad I did take the trouble to raise matters with my MP. I felt then and feel now that I did need to make him aware he might not get my vote (and those of family and friends) at the next election , if he did not act.0
