has anyone turned a room into shabby sheek?

I am decorating for the first time :T and wanting to go down the shabby sheek route as I have a white dining room table, dresser and a lovely log burner. Does anyone know the road to go down/rules for a shabby sheek look without it looking tacky and awful.

Try googling 'shabby CHIC' for ideas :)

You beat me to it PlymouthMaid ;)

Although I don't think there is a way to stop it looking tacky unless it fits the house, is there?

There are paint effects you can use on the walls (like rag washing) but I think that can look tacky in some cases.

We went for a shabby chic look in our master bedroom, neutral tones on the wall and carpet, French carved headboard (a steal on ebay), 'antiqued' picture frames, and rest of the furniture we rubbed down the white painted wood to give a distressed look.

    Works really well

my advice, contrast a clean modern look on the walls with a hand full of furniture in the shabby style, too much and it looks cheap.

Don't think you will save any money as it will most likely cost more, to do this look properly.

A pale green could work, with subdue pinks and white.
    Something like this?

Depending on how feminine you wanted the room (and how bright the other pinks are) you could consider a dark burnt pink, or very faint pink like the below.

Yes I have a white round table and 4 chairs, dresser and a log burner and want to keep it just to that with a few accessories but I don't want white or magnolia walls, bit of colour I thought. That is harder than said tho :)

I think the bath/tiling is throwing my off, the colour is fine.

If you replaced it with a decent roll top and without the tiling altogether it would change the look of the room.
