O/S Daily Tuesday 3rd March 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now getting light, clear sky but can’t tell if we’ve had a frost or not – wind was bitter yesterday.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 getting ready for work. Will get DS2 up for school shortly.

Dinner last night was smoked sausage pasta, tonight will be scampi, chips and beans/veg for the menfolk, I’ll have salmon en croute, jacket potato and veg.

Work yesterday morning was manic – we were really busy but then it did ease off and was very much quieter in the afternoon – it went really dark and then we had a really hard rain/hail storm at about 2pm and it was just went quiet after that. We have been forecast a chance of snow this morning but it hasn’t appeared as yet and was supposed to be in the early hours – hoping we don’t get it to be honest. I’m working at my normal office today and not the other one as we’re short staffed.

Had a return email from the parents of the teenage girl that was hit by a car last week, to say thanks for your kind wishes and she’s home and they expect her to make a full recovery, although she is having to rest loads at the moment, they also said her confidence has really been shaken, I think sometimes it’s those things that can be the hardest to rectify so hoping she’s given loads of support – which I’m sure her parents, family and friends will do – they are very family orientated. So that was good news.

Hoping we’re going to be busy again today – we saw quite a lot of people who had received letters regarding arrears etc, so those letters are hitting the mats. I just want to keep busy as it’s really helping keep my mood up a bit and stops me thinking too much etc. Once I’ve worked today I only have tomorrow morning at work then I’m on days’ off, Thursday I have dentist first thing, then a beautician appointment in the afternoon – so will need to do washing, drying, ironing, and housework in between, so won’t really have time to sit and ponder. I think once I’m on days’ off this week, we’re so busy for the next 3 weekends it’ll give me something to focus on and before we know it we’ll be at the end of March, I don’t mean to wish the time away but we’ll then be changing the clocks and I’m sure that is going to help.

Just to add it’s now raining – and everywhere is wet so the chance of snow and it laying are decreasing.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

Another nasty day ahead I think. Not gone to work again, the drive is just so risky, but it's all due to clear up later.

Gone back to bed and am enjoying a read under the duvet.

No idea what my day will bring.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

    Morning All

Gers, you stay at home, it's horrible out there. We have heavy snow, it's coming down thick and fast at the moment, hope you are all safe and warm. I will take my time getting to work, would rather get there safely than on time!

Not much happening here, last night we had jamaican bean stew and sausages (pork and apple I think from Asd@ and were really good). I will have more stew for my lunch today, took a salad yesterday but I was frozen so didn't warm up.

Right, off for a shower before I battle with the weather. Take care. XX

    Good morning everyone

It's nice to see the lighter mornings now and I know my hubby is pleased not to have to go to work in the dark. I feel Spring is here now with the birdsong in the morning as well. As soon as the roofers have finished it will be time to clear up the garden and give the grass it's first cut of the year.

I am escaping to my friends house later on this morning for a coffee and chat. I'm really looking forward to it and she will come and pick me up and bring me home too so there is no taxi fare to find. She is one of the kindest people I have ever met and her life is really tough caring for both of her daughters with ME/CFS. I always joke and say she must have been a terrible dictator in a previous life as I have never known anyone to have such bad luck but she is really great and I love her dearly.

My DD12's Head of Year rang me yesterday to say that DD12 had a panic attack in her lesson and needed to leave the room to compose herself. She went to the nurse who sent her to the HOY. He is a personal friend of ours as he married my best friend's daughter a couple of years ago but I was still very alarmed when he rang me. DD is fine, I think she was stressing because her class is huge and there are a lot of silly kids in it who just want to mess around and cause trouble. Her school has just been put into Special Measures so I am not overly optomistic about the teaching staff's effectiveness due to such poor leadership over the past few years . They have a new 'super head' who started last week so I will wait and see whether the school improves.

I remembered to get some pork loin chops out for tea and I am going to make a huge pile of mashed swede to go with them as I absolutely love it and we rarely have it. I also have some broccoli and green beans to eat up so it should be a nice healthy meal. I made curry last night after all my deliberating and it was very nice.
I've defrosted some salmon as well and will make it into a pasta dish for lunch.

Well I need to go and get dressed before the roofers arrive, don't want to scare them :rotfl:so I will say good bye for now. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to. Take care xx

    Morning all,

Been raining here most of the night and its still very cold, yesterday was a beautiful sunny day but the wind was bitter, roll on spring !

Off to work today will be busy as we have a conference booked in for lunchtime, its also a good day client wise so should be a nice day.

Not sure about dinner tonight it will either be some of the left over lamb with mash peas and pickle or gnocci salad and garlic bread.

Went to the dentist yesterday and finally had my filling done, its been driving me mad and feels so much better, so glad that's out the way.

Need to do a wash tonight and have a tidy round.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning all,

beautiful day here but cold. I'll be going down to see Mom at 10. I wonder what today will bring! I'll be doing a quick scoot round with the vacuum before I go but apart from doing tea i'll be doing nothing this afternoon. I watched Twilight Eclipse before I went to bed last night... well I say watched. I fell asleep half way through so i'll be carrying on where I left off when I get back.

Youngest has been sent on a different job. He will be so looking forward to getting his car on the road as he is fed up with public transport to get everywhere.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.

  • Morning ((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

We had rain overnight, the sun is out for now, snow is forecast for later, we do not always get the snow, we are surrounded by hills and often the snow dumps before it gets to us, we always used to say if we had snow it was a bad winter. I remember 1981 we woke up to no power and 12" of snow, that was exceptional.

Nothing planned for the day, just going to chill.
  • Good Morning everyone, it's clear here now but we had massively heavy rain in the early hours and I woke up to Docky shaking like a leaf because of the noise in the middle of our bed, poor old fella. It took a while to calm him down and got back to sleep just before 6 so we're all feeling a bit jaded. He's out for his walk now but was a very unhappy lad for a while. Our new floorings went down yesterday and look super, a bonus was there is enough carpet left in big enough strips from the remnant to re cover the summer house floor when we get warm enough weather to empty out the furniture and remove the old straw mats. It will be nice to be able to use it as a summer house for when Zebra comes to stay and give him some garden time now he's walking. I'm looking forward to some warmth outside though, it's been cold for so long.

Have yourselves a lovely day everyone, Lyn xxx.

    Hi everyone,

I'm feeling an os fraud at the moment as life is just puttering along - I can't even be bothered to cook very much. Having said that I did make a big batch of celeriac and apple soup because I had some very wrinkly apples to be used up. I love celeriac but don't like celery at all although it is bearable when cooked.

I spent yesterday sorting out the dining room that I use for sewing, I devised some new storage options and feel quite pleased, hopefully it will be easier to keep tidy now, I'm a bit messy when I work.

I have to go and pick up some crochet napkins from a Freegler later, DD and I are going to dye them and make table runners out of them for her wedding. She wants a colourful wedding.

    Have a good day.
