"the tool is just a motor, it's the bits and blades that are worth spending money on"

To be fair that's very generalising, a lot of tct blades are rated way beyond 1600rpm, and a lot of blades sold by manufacturers specifically for their mitre saws are tct blades.0
-
But saws designed to take TCT have lower running speeds, maybe upto 3800rpm, depending on dia, but many straight wood working mitre saws have speeds of 5000rpm upwards.
I have both abrasive and metal cut off machines, they look identical and the blades would fit however the abrasives run at nearly 7000rpm, where the TCTs are under half of that.
The OP maybe fine, but its important to be aware of the differences and the run speed.
All abrasives and cutting machines deserve respect, IV been around the metal working industry to see, enough lost fingers, eyes and permanent injury's from people who just are not had adequate training or information.0 -
Most jigsaws will have a blade guide which needs setting by the user. Is it possible the ryobi needed setting but the borrowed Bosch was set.In any case, had serious issues cutting with ryobi I think the blade movement is not perfectly aligned and shimmying slightly left to right
If you continued cutting once the blade was clogged the cut would wander.0 -

I have a Bosch and a Makita jigsaw.
The only adjustments possible are for the orbital function, the sole plate and the cutting speed.
The blade guides are fixed.Forgotten but not gone.0 -
Then presumably on orbital jigsaws the blade guide acts as a pivot. On non orbital jigsaws there is likely to be some adjustment.I have a Bosch and a Makita jigsaw.
