Backpain is awful and very debilitating, you have done the right thing to call a GP and get some analgesia.
It is the chiropractors job to assess a situation and consider whether his treatment will impove or worsen your condition.. This one has obviously decided that the skills he has cannot help you and may make things worse. It is important that he exercises clinical judgement.
He has clearly explained this in a way you feel is hurtful and judgemental and that is not right but he had to explain why he wouldn't treat you, he couldn't just say no and walk out of the door.
Talk with your GP again, ask for a referral to a consultant or help in finding a suitable chiropractor. Maybe you could visit their office if you took a taxi.
Most backs do clear up on there own and current treatment seems to be to continue your lifestyle and exercise not rest but check this with your GP that this is correct for your situation.
Do not take things today too personally, he was just doing his job and didn't want to harm rather than help.
Hope you feel better soon.0 -
Yes, I understand why he said it and fair enough on not having the right equipment I guess but basically being told I'm a nutter I found a bit off. Of course I'm on pain meds. Apparently GP's aren't allowed to recommend anyone so have booked into a clinic on Friday. Hopefully they'll sort me out once and for all as I'm going out of my head. Apparently it's 'only' a bulging disc but the pain is awful without it being exquisitely painful and I can't twist either way. Which is kind of necessary for er, certain actions!0

Good on him for choosing clinical appropriateness over money.
Having had osteopathy, I understand completely why he said your weight was a safety issue. A collapsing table is bad enough, permanently disabling a practitioner would destroy you emotionally far more than his refusal to treat you.
You need to go back to your doctor and ask about physio/hydrotherapy.
And yes, hard though it may sound, you need to look at your eating habits.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I use a cranial osteopath - there's no manipulation but she has sorted out all my back problems.
I'd be concerned that the GPs haven't investigated what's happened further.0 -
Not all practitioners are happy to treat everyone. Would you rather have had someone with a gung-ho attitude who could have made your condition worse? I had numerous muscle issues when I was pregnant and saw several physiotherapists. The first didn't want to treat me, the second hardly touched me and just wanted to give me "exercises" to do at home (cost me hundreds for naff-all as private) and it was only when my consultant referred me to a woman who specialised in muscular problems in pregnancy that I actually got the help I needed. Don't get too down - persevere and go back to your GP for a referral to a chiropractor / physiotherapist / osteopath who can help you.0

He doesn't sound like he had a good bedside manner but might he have been concerned that the sleeping pills and pain killers would mask symptoms and not felt competent in his own abilities to see through this rather than thinking you were a "nutter"!
Similarly with the weight/size issue - perhaps he didn't have the skills to treat anyone outside certain parameters? That doesn't make you freakishly big just outside the range of his experience.
Different practitioners have different skills and experience. Hope you can find someone soon with the right combination of both. Back pain is awful and I'd rather have someone working on me who is confident they know what they are doing and can help so could be an ill wind.0 -

I am sorry you have chosen to delete your post. I actuallt took my time and energy to reply to you in what a I believe is an appropriate manner, you even thanked me and then you choose to behave like a spoiled child who didn't get to hear what you want.
I think your behaviour is as inappropriate as you believe the chiropractors is. Maybe this explains why you were upset by his behaviour!!!!!!,0 -

It's also very frustrating when you don't know what on earth it's about, but the thread is still here!!!0 -

This. Argh.
It's also worth remembering that chiropracty is rightly considered a complementary therapy, not a medical treatment, and as such GPs cannot refer to them for treatment on the NHS.
