hello - does anyone know if fines can actually be issued if a landlord doesn't register under this scheme?
I'm a landlord and costs are tight enough without this - any info would be appreciated

Failing to register
You'll be guilty of an offence if
you give the registrar false information
you rent out a property without registering your details
you fail to provide evidence of your registration in particular circumstances
If you're convicted of these offences you could be fined. If you fail to register or give false information you could be fined up to £2,500. If you fail to provide evidence of your registration you could be fined up to £500.

They are doing this in certain areas -the best solution is to maybe purchase ppty in areas where registration is not mandatory.
having just spent 700 on a roof repair I personally disagree with the scheme as it benefits no-one (apart from the govt) and is neither use nor ornament.

They had a substantial piece on this on OYB (On Your Behalf) the other weekend on Radio Ulster. It is Mandatory and you can/will get fined if found out.... (i.e. disgruntled neighbours, relatives or tenants being prime informers in this case)
When registering ALL people named on the property Deeds need to register, not just one so both myself and my OH had to register for one house.... (Pretty pants that really...... I think)
Personally if I were you I'd do it. It will only be a matter of time before someone will question it....0 -
Does this scheme benefit anyone?0

Actually it's for Council and LPS use only... HMRC will not be allowed access to the information AFAIK.... so don't think it will be used for that. More for Tennant Protection and so "accidental" landlords can be furnished with advise on what is expected from them as Landlords..... can't claim ignorance (not that that would be any sort of excuse) if taken up for something !!0 -

Its actually quite quick to register, so not reams of paper to fill in. just do it online. Cant really see any benefit apart from an extra way of taxingI started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p0
