ESA-Am I entitled?

Hi,
I currently get Enhanced PIP care and Mobility and have just put in a claim for Income based ESA (not entitled to contributions based). My partner is my carer and claims Carers allowance for me and works part time (approx 18 hours a week) for himself, but his business is currently running at a loss. He is registered Self employed with HMRC and holds a small earnings exeption certificate.
Does anyone think I qualify for ESA?
Thanks.

Hello, it depends on what your GP thinks. If he/she is prepared to issue you with a sick note confirming that you are unfit to do any work due to illness then you can go ahead and claim ESA.
Being disabled to the extent that you have care and mobility needs is certainly not a reason for anybody to be able to claim ESA. Many people actually work full time and claim the same level of PIP as you are doing.0 -
Thanks, I already have a medical cert for 2 months and have sent it in with my claim. I have no doubt I qualify medically, but I was worried about financially if I would qualify.0

Whether or not you will have an entitlement to Income Related benefit will be entirely dependant on your partner's income. When you claim he will need to complete a form B16 and provide profit & loss information for the latest tax year. Only then will ESA be able to advise on your entitlement.
There is certainly nothing to be lost, apart from a bit of time, by making the application.0
