... please.
Bullet points as follows.
1 - My car is a non-runner.
2 - It got towed to my street and is legally parked in a parking lane. Neighbours are happy. MOT and taxed.
3 - Arranged for it to be taken away and did the plate swap and displayed both sets of plates due to old plate screws being sheared - bit dodgy but really quiet estate.
4 - Car was picked up and taken away for spares and repairs last Friday.
5 - Insurance know no different but my new car is due any day now.
6 - When it arrives, I plan to ring insurance and swap over to new car or terminate if I can get a better deal.
7 - Technically, the insured car no longer exists because of the plate change. It's in a breaker's yard anyway.
Have I broken any rules or should I have done anything different?

Technically you should inform them that you no longer own the vehicle. Some insurers may be willing to suspend the policy whilst you await the new one but others will want a vehicle on cover otherwise the policy is cancelled.
The theoretical risk is that despite you no longer owning it if it were able to be gotten running and had an accident that your insurers would still be the RTA insurers of the vehicle. If they had to settle a TP claim then legally they have a right against you to get their money back as they shouldnt/ wouldnt have been RTA insurer had you informed them as you are required to do.
Given its a non-runner you may be willing to take the risk a bit more but I dont know your level of confidence that a mechanic mightent be able to get it running.
You sold it to a scrap yard, its up to them what they do with it. You get a few posts on here occasionally of people being annoyed that their car was total lossed by their insurers, was sent to a scrap yard and a few weeks later they see it being driven around their area again when they assumed it'd be broken for parts.0 -
You'll probably find the driving other cars cover is not operative whilst the car covered by the policy no longer exists0

I suspect you have broken the policy terms - but for the sake of a few days, if you are sure it's in a breakers yard, then I don't see what could happen between now and changeover.0

All good points, many thanks.
I'd best give them a ring to be safe.0 -

Hopefully they won't say you need to cancel it and take out a new policy at the new date. I hope they won't, but nothing surprises me with insurance companies.
Personally i'd say nothing, knowing it's in a breakers yard to no risk it being driven and affecting you.0 -
did you get a certificate of destruction from the breakers yard? if so change insurance when you get a replacement car, if not change insurance nowSealed pot challenger # 10
