Parking Fine - £60 for 38 minutes

Hello,

I'm curious as to my options and the likelihood of success.

I was attending a conference at the Radisson Hotel near Heathrow - however, I didn't realise they had 2 hotels within 400 meters on the same road.

As I came off the motorway, and on the busy 3 lane road near Heathrow, I turned into the first sign for the Radisson hotel I saw, found a parking spot and got out of the car. The building looked different to what I had seen on the internet, so I went inside and queued to speak to reception to find out which room the conference was in. She wasn't sure, and directed me to their Conferencing Facilities, where I queued again to find out that we were not booked here. I went back to the car and did a quick google search to find that there were indeed 2 hotels.

I drove out without buying a ticket, and I have since received a penalty notice for £60 if I pay now, and £100 if I pay after 14 days.

My total time in the car park is recorded at 38 minutes on their notice.

I have written to them explaining the misunderstanding and asking for them to waive the charge on this occasion, which they have today rejected and provided me with a further 14 days to pay £60.

Do you think it is worth appealing to POPLA (they have included a form to do so)? £60 for a 38 minute stop is extortionate!

Thanks in advance for your help.

plus you haven't been fined, unless its a council or police issued ticket.

Read the Newbies thread. PoPLA appeals constructed from the information you will find there always win, in fact ParkingEye doesn't even bother defending them any more.
