Smoke alarms

One of the smoke alarms started to beep the last couple of days (was told by mum) so I knew I needed to change the batteries. Got three in our long hallway of the bungalow. So looking up the cost of batteries and that two of the units are over 10 years old and taking 2 batteries each, it works out better to replace them.
Here is where I have the problem, there are so many to choose from and different types that I'm getting confused. The two I want to replace have lights on as I'm hearing impaired.
Also thinking of relocating the one directly outside the kitchen or should I replace that one too that is not over sensitive to my mums cooking? I think this one is about 5 years old.
Don't want to spend a fortune but then again its for safety.

I'd get a heat detector alarm in or near the kitchen and smoke alarms for the other two, all mains powered with battery backup. The mains powered alarms I have are all linked together and all have illumination to aid escape. This was a building regs requirement when we had our extension built.0

Depending on where you live your local fire service may give/fit free smoke detectors.0

Get a heat or optical alarm for outside the kitchen.
Replace the other two with ionisation alarms if you use an optical one by the kitchen.
If you use a heat alarm by the kitchen, replace the others with one optical and one ionisation.
If you haven't got a carbon monoxide alarm, get one of those as well.0 -
Any brand better than the other or even better tell me what to get.
Will ring the fire service for a free home check later this week but want a back up if they don't supply alarms.
Carbon monoxide alarm have 2 in kitchen, one mains and other battery and have just changed the batteries in that so that's ok.0
