Wouldn't be surprised if the goop had also blocked up some of the smaller coolant channels in the block. :(

I've heard of this before, but I've never heard of it happening to anybody, is this really possible?, if so how are they still selling it without being sued out of business?

I've only used this stuff once before, it did plug the radiator leak, but as the car then pressurised the cooling system a new leak appeared in a different part of the radiator!!, Cost me for the goop, and antifreeze, lesson learnt.

So lets see its a 57 plate vectra diesel so i take it a 1.9cdti?
This will be a timing belt not a chain,if this is te engine there could be quite a few things happended as to why it wont now start.
Without being there and actually hearing/seeing what happend to the car at the time it cut out it would be hard to say exactly what it is,in my opinion from reading what the garage say id forget about the water/coolant leak for the time being if it is the engine i think it is then has it got a dpf? This could be blocked solid this would stop the engine starting.
Also these engines are very common for the water pump seizing up wich will cause the timing belt to jump.they also suffer from crankshaft pulley failure the keyway snaps causing the timing to jump.
If i had this the 1st step would be a trouble code scan and then removed timing belt covers and check engine timing then go from there.
  • Sorry it's an Astra not a vectra (my bad)
