At least you will have made some contribution to the roads. I mean what right have you to use the roads if you don't pay road tax?
  • Granted.
But that was one of the reasons I bought the car. I still have to pay £250 odd for the family car.
It is the principle, how can I be guilty of not paying my tax when I owed no tax?

Strictly speaking it's not a fine for failing to pay the tax, it's a fine for failing to licence the vehicle. The cost of licencing the vehicle varies from car to car - for some cars it's expensive, for others there's no fee to pay and it's just a case of filling in a form online - but you still have to do it either way.

Your gulity for renewing the vehicle licence/tax, you have to do this even when they were displayed. Exception is you do not pay backdated tax like others who pay do.

The same fine amount applies for HGV who tax at say £1200 and a car at £140.

road tax was abolished in the 1930's. VED does not go into paying for the upkeep of roads. OP has every right to use the road as any other human being on the planet.

Pay the £80 fine, definitely do not tell them you forgot to change address. The fine for not updating the address is considerably higher than £80.

Yes I know. It was a joke made by a cyclist. Cyclists are always being told my motorists to get of the f***ing road because they don't pay road tax. Just look on youtube if you don't believe it. Surely these motorists who don't pay emissions tax should be similar targets.
