Quick question on a potential rent increase

Hi all
quick question for you guys
Does a landlord have to give any notice about a potential rent increase?
I'm due to sign a new tenancy in the next 10 days and I've not heard anything about any rent increase. I presume one is incoming but I dont want to go to the letting agent to sign for a new year to be told "oh, by the way, the rents going up by X amount"
Especially if I cant afford it!

No a LL doesn't need to give you a certain number of days to tell you of a rent increase before you sign a new tenancy agreement. When it comes to the new tenancy agreement your choices are accepting any rent increase and signing the TA, or not accepting the rent increase and not signing the new TA. If you opt for the latter expect a Section 21 to be winging its way to you.0

You don;t have to sign any new agreement - the tenancy simply continues after end of fixed term as "periodic) (Section 5 Housing Act 1988): But you may want the security of a new tenancy (otherwise Landlord can serve 2 months s21 notice) and agent will want his fees.
If unhappy with anything in the new agreement thank them kindly but state you will be taking advice about it.
If you decline to sign a new agreement landlord can evict you, for no reason at all (Section 21 notice) or could raise rent by either asking you to pay more (if you the did that;s agreed & legal) or serving a "section 13" notice which you can appeal against.0 -

Bah, oh well.
Just be handy to know before i go in there to sign for another year. I want to stay there for another year (well, to be honest, more).
If he wants too much, would like to spend the next week or so negotiating any increase before going there.0 -
You are perfectly entitled to propose a rent decrease.. (probably justified in some areas..). LL may issue s21 in response..
