If you only put it on once a week, I doubt the dishes would get clean
and you have to have enough clean ones to last a week0 -
There's two of us & it goes on at least twice in every three days. Once you start putting pans & bowls in there it soon fills up, unless you don't cook of course.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Two of us too and we run our d/w every day. Wouldn't be without it. Got a full sized d/w which we seem to fill up without problem. I did buy some extra cutlery and crockery though. Even if it is a bit more expensive than hand washing it is worth it in terms of time saved and clean dishes (DH is pants at washing up).
Lived in a rental property a couple of years ago and soooo missed the dishwasher. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

I think cost difference is minimal. But the benefits of a dishwasher are so great that I'd never be without one. They bring your glasses up sparkling like new, and everything's comes out so CLEAN. It's also great as you never have an untidy kitchen....I use mine as a sink, so there's never any dirty dishes piling up.
I have a full size dishwasher, and even though the children have grown up and moved out, I still put it on either every day or every two days, they soon fill up, especially with large pans, saucepans etc.
Personally I'd avoid the slimline ones as a friend of mine had one and it wouldn't fit large pans etc, much better to have a normal full sized one. You do need ample crockery but you can always buy stacks of the stuff from the High Street.0 -
we had a small one standing on top of worktop, slightly bigger than microwave .. cheaper to buy , smaller than other dishwashers and took all plates spoons etc.. big stuff, i used my wife to do so
that works perfect for our young family
We later gave that to my mother and bought a slimline which again takes plenty for a family of three but again the big stuff hand washed
if you are a single or 2 , and slightly lazy, the small on worktop one is perfect0 -
We have a full size one and there is 5 of us. I put in one everyday and wash up once or twice a day tooHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

I guess it depends whether you cook a lot or use microwave meals! Our dishwasher goes on every other day and there's two of us but we cook everything from scratch and almost all our cookware and bakeware is dishwasher proof so doesn't take long to fill it.0

Two of us in our house and it goes on most evenings. Partner works from home so more mugs/ glasses and we cook everything from scratch. Never understood why people think you'd use that many plates- right now I am cooking a curry and apart from using 2 less plates/cutlery sets it is the same as cooking for a whole family so will fill my dishwasher.
I love having my dirty (or cleaned) dishes out of sight until you are ready to sort them- it's so nice to not get in from work and face the breakfast dishes, plus it definitely reduced the arguments in our house!0
