memory foam mattress

I'm looking for a double memory foam mattress.

Any recommendations for something high quality and yet cost effective? Tried and tested recommendation please.

Oh as an aside. ..is it true ikea beds aren't made to standard size specifications. ..so if you buy a frame from there you have to buy a mattress too. (Not thinking of an ikea memory foam, just curious)

Thanks

They are standard sizes, just not British standard sizes, so you're pretty much tied in for the mattress and bedding as well!

My mattress is by the British bed company with memory foam on top, king size cost just over £500 and I love it!

Ikea have started selling UK sizes.

But personally their mattresses aren't any good, as for the 25 year guarantee good luck trying to claim on it. Just search this forum!

i don't know what is the difference between cheap memory foam and expensive memory foam.
I have silentnight 3 zone. They are comfortable. But you may find it hot in summer.

Memory foam comes in different grades/densities it's measured in kg per cubic meter I think.

It normally has a V number before the weight
    Very cheap stuff V35, V40,
Pretty good stuff starts at V60
    Better is V85
    More top end is V100

Tempur is slightly different again for which I have no knowledge of what grade it is.

If a product doesn't have a description then you can bet your bottom dollar it'll be cheap stuff.

Just like when mattresses say they have Latex, if it doesn't state how much latex is normally a mere and pointless 10mm.

    Hope that helps a little.

    Catoutthebag, whats your budget?

Do you want all foam or springs and foam?

Hi I don't have a specific budget. Does 300 sound ok in getting me at least mid range double?

I presume all foam is better than a mix?...If so I'd like that if possible. Thank you

I bought one of those for my daughter and partner . It came top in a recent which report. Sadly after 9 months or so , they got bad backs, and rolling into the middle was a problem . We got a refund from Amazon, they had had lots of complaints. The refund was brilliant though, unquestioned, fast and efficient. Wish Id checked out the reviews here first though.

first , lots of happy peeps in the 5* but check out the 3,2 and 1 stars comments ! I reckon people filling in the reviews within a couple of weeks of getting the mattress when its nice and comfy explain the 5* ones. Either that or the quality varies depending on origin.
  • Ikeas sizes are continental so abit larger than british but they have started stocking british standard sizes too
HOWEVER - we scraped pennies together and bought a 'very firm' Ikea memory foam mattress 3 years ago
We both suffer with awful lower backache now but alas cannot afford another mattress
We often sleep on the floor over 2 duvets - much more comfortable come morning
