Credit card on PayPal account

I've been getting reminders from PayPal that the credit card registered to my account is about to expire.
It's been years since I set up the account and I've never used it, payments are always taken from my bank. What is the purpose of having a CC registered? Is it optional or a requirement, the reminders don't tell me?

Personally, I refuse to link my bank account to Paypal and only have my credit card registered. Touch wood, I've never had a problem with Paypal - but 2 friends have had their bank accounts raided, one to the tune of £3000, and had a lot of hassle recovering the fraudulently taken funds.0

PayPal don't go around raiding accounts, however someone can allow hackers to gain access either through a weak password or falling for a phishing email, just like any bank. People need to understand that PayPal is just like any other financial institution online, unless users have a basic idea of how to stay safe they should not use it.
After a certain amount of time PayPal will not allow use of a paypal account unless it is verified through a bank account, so if someone has no bank account (and it must be capable of having a direct debit set up) then ultimately they will not be able to use PayPal.
We must educate people on PayPal, there are too many urban myths around and unless we all understand exactly how it works and how to stay safe people will be encountering issues.
OP it always used to be that a user had to have at least one bAnk card registered on PayPal, either debit or credit , so you may have to update your card details.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks, soolin.OP it always used to be that a user had to have at least one bAnk card registered on PayPal, either debit or credit , so you may have to update your card details.
Maybe I should get them to use the CC instead of the bank account, I can get cashback that way - or would payments out be regarded as cash withdrawals and charged accordingly?0 -
As far as I know when someone pays with paypal from their bank account as long as they have a credit card on file (as a back up payment method) the seller will get the payment straight away and be able to post your item. If you don't have a credit card on file then it would go as an echeque and the seller would have to wait for your payment to clear before sending your item. I could be wrong but that's how I believe it to work.0

I do see a reference, when a payment is due from my bank, that I 'chose to pay after delivery'. Is that normal, I don't remember having to select that when I signed up?0
