There is quite a long thread here on this very subject:

Would it be possible to merge these two threads?0 -
I give up. I'm unplugging my landline now.0

I think the MP's are off on the wrong tack here. Are they suggesting that I should seek recompense from go compare/etc etc because they saved me £100 p.a. and also paid me £30 for switching instead of perhaps saving me £140 (and maybe not paying me £30 for the switch. I can see another new compensation industry developing alongside PPI/injury claims etc. Who will establish what the cheaper price was at the time of switch? I assume this will apply to car and home insurance too!0

Compensation claims would at least stop the choice in a dropdown list pretty quickly. I have to admit to being conned myself briefly on Ukpower.co.uks claim of "all tariffs we can switch you to " only to find out there were quite a few more they could also switch me to, but were nt going to make quite as much money on. There is an element of sharp practice and deceit..and its still going off.0

The people who should be compensated are those who are misled into thinking they will save £xxx and won't save that amount.
Or
Misled into thinking they are being offered the cheapest available tariff.
There would be a certain irony if a compensation scheme like PPI grew out of this sharp practice!;)0 -
Comparison sites should have to compensate customers. Why should people spend hours of their time on the phone or months chasing vouchers that don't arrive as promised.

I noticed early on that some comparison sites didn't show any tariffs from the supplier you had said was your current supplier, but if you started over and entered a different supplier as "current" then it would show you those tariffs!
I always switch by researching tariffs on comparison sites, then going directly to my preferred supplier.0
