O/S Daily Monday 2nd March 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now getting light, clear sky so we’ve had a frost.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 getting ready for work. Will get DS2 up for school shortly.

Dinner last night was a naughty takeaway as we were later back than we’d hoped, as we were asked if we could take some paperwork to our other friend as they were unable to attend the meeting. We had to divert just off route to go to theirs then we hadn’t seen them for a while so wanted us to stay for a bit chatting. We dropped our other friends off then collecting DH’s work van on the way home. Meeting covered all the normal information and topics and the representatives from the charities that we fundraise for were there and we were able to present them with cheques for over £1000 each. We will have different charities this year – as we get to choose a charity for the senior and junior members to support each year. Also had some sad news that the guy that was the Treasurer is now in hospital and it’s not looking good, he had a stroke before xmas and has been in a very poorly state since, he’s been in a nursing home but has become too poorly for them to look after him so he’s in hospital. Also one of the junior members, a teenage girl, was hit by a car last weekend, (she was a pedestrian) and has head injuries – she’s been in hospital and we only got a muddled message so don’t know whether she’s home or still in or the real extent of her injuries – I’ve sent her parents an email as I didn’t want to bother them with a telephone call as I’m sure their phone has been ringing off the wall - but just sent our love and best wishes for a speedy recovery and that we’re thinking of them all. When you hear of things like these it really makes you take stock and realise that generally speaking we’re not in a too bad situation – strangely it has made me think that actually I need to get organised a bit and not overthink things so much, we need to be thankful for what we have.

Dinner tonight will be smoked sausage pasta with crème fraiche.

On a brighter note, we were quite busy yesterday – as we visited our friend and the roof bars he wanted to get rid of, fit our car and we’d already bought his roof box that went with it, the car he bought them to fit he only had a very short space of time and we know that these bars and roof box have only been used a handful of times so a good buy at half what we’d pay if we bought new, he’s already fitted the bars to the car, and box will be going on nearer to our holidays. We then had to go back to collect the caravan, then home to cook and eat some brunch, then off to collect friends and go to the meeting. Strangely my mood was better yesterday (obviously I was sad to hear of illness and injury) but in general terms I was better – I think it goes back to the,” I need to keep busy and just taking a day at a time, not sitting and pondering/thinking too much.”

Back to work for me today, not sure what sort of day we will get as the travelling fair is in town for this week and next and they use all of 1 car park and part of the one that I use, so quite a lot of people won’t come into town as they struggle to park – the town is complete chaos at the moment as they’ve got loads of road works going on and at peak times there’s queues everywhere!

    Have good Mondays’ everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning one and all. Light covering of snow here overnight. No more forecast so please let them be right!

Well we are all packed, just all the potions and pills to pack before we go! I am so looking forward to 5 days of no cooking, no housework and no childminding! We plan on setting off mid-morning and, as Kendal isn't too long a drive from here, we are going to stop off in Kirkby Lonsdale for a light bite at lunchtime. We can't check in until 3.00 pm so no rush to get to the hotel. I tried my swimming costume on yesterday (to see if it still fits!) and I wish I hadn't, it wasn't a pretty sight!!

Have a good week everybody and "see " you all Saturday. Take care. Nice to read your more positive update yesterday evening Dumpling. xxx

    Morning All

Have a lovely relaxing time TA.
Glad you had a good time nmlc, sorry to hear of your friends.

It's raining again but I have no washing so don't really mind. I put the washing on airers in the conservatory yesterday so the lovely sunshine we had between the horrific showers meant it was dry by the time we went out at 5.

Had dinner at friends which was lovely. They have had loads done to their house so that has given me a bit of oomph to get going again with this one - I'll probably get over that by lunchtime!

Hope you all have a good week. Take care. XX
  • Aaaaargh!! The forecast was wrong. I have just opened the blinds and, in the half hour since I last looked out, find we are in the midst of a blizzard and the roads already getting a deep covering. If we get snowed in I shall cry!

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Not sure what the weather is going to do today, it's dry at the moment but the sky looks full of rain. I'm going to stay home today unless I can get an appointment to see my doctor. I think my meds need tweaking and I don't feel very well today with a bad tum.

Hubby has gone off to work quite cheerful even though it's a Monday morning, the girls....not so much :D. They are all ready for school though so that's a good start. My eldest DD is coming over for a cuppa this morning too and it will be good to catch up with her.

We had lots of leftover chicken from yesterday so I will make a curry for tea, although it probably won't help my tummy troubles. Maybe a risotto would be kinder, hmm going to have a think about it. I've hauled my backside firmly on the healthy eating wagon though and have strapped myself on tight. I have some salmon in the freezer so that will be my lunch for the next couple of days too with some pasta and tomatoes.

nmlc - sorry to hear about your charity members, I hope they both make a swift recovery. Glad you are feeling better though.
Travelling Abuela - hope you have a fantastic holiday and get some well deserved rest and relaxation.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xxx

Watery looking sun here in north Kent but not too bad and fairly mild for a change.
I have to pick my son-in-law up from the garage as his mot is due and he wants to leave his car there ,then drop him back at his house then a quick mercy mission up to my DDs in-laws in London to drop of my DDs heat and massage belt for her Ma-in-law as she has a very uncomfortable and painful back atm, and my youngest DD has a special pad-type belt that heats and madssages your back and its a brilliant gadget .
She is going to try it and if it helps buy one herself. But by trying it at home first she will see if its worth her while to buy.I have borrowed it ooccasions and found it very useful .

Then its back to Dds house to let the dogs out and tidy up before the children come in from school So NSD for me today just a bit of too-ing and fro-ing :):):)
Hope everyone has a good day and is warm enough.March is here now so spring won't be far away

    Morning all,

Bitterly cold here again but no snow, I really thought spring was on the way ! TA I do hope you are able to get away.

Off to work for me, I feel knackered after having the dogs all weekend, I don't know how my sister does it, I could do with a day off to recover !

Roast lamb tonight its all cooked and in the fridge I just have to shove the meat in gravy and the roast spuds and parsnips in the oven and the veg in the micro, I love this quick dinner after a long day.

Dentist this morning to have my filling re done (been waiting ages) I shall be glad to get it done, I will have to nip out of work for an hour but I have some lieu owing so it will be ok.

Got loads of washing washed and almost dried yesterday, a quick turn in the TD finished it off, I am so glad we got it , its nice not having all the damp washing hanging around and I am sure its making the house less damp too.

Topsy hope your stepdad is ok xx

    Sistercas, how are you ?

    Have good days all xx

The weather was awful yesterday, so I spent the afternoon with my feet up watching The Wizard Of Oz, crocheting, eating choc biscuits and drinking tea :D

I was hoping to get outside today, when I woke up it looked like a good garden day. But it's windy and rainy now. Hopefully it'll clear up later.

I meant to get a chicken out of the freezer to cook today, but forgot  I'll defrost it today instead, not quite sure what happening food-wise now :D

Just one load of washing to do, that'll have to be hung indoors. I have a few bits and pieces to sort out so will get them out of the way first thing.

    Morning everyone.

    Fingers crossed for you TA.

Well I woke at 4.15 ready to get up and down the long road to work, saw the forecast, looked at a couple of traffic cameras and stayed in bed. I have enough work with me to get with that I'm not risking it out in the blizzards just to sit in an office doing it. Had a couple more hours in bed after texting my boss.

Just need to zoom out now for milk and then settle down to the paperwork. I'm only tying up loose ends before I leave work.

Will need to rummage in the freezer for lunch and evening meal.

    Hope everyone keeps warm.

    Happy Monday.
