Freezer door left open

Stupidly left the freezer door open the other day. Unfortunately we lost a lot of stuff but having now closed the door the freezer is now refreezing itself albeit very slower. Does anyone know how quickly new freezers generally take to refreeze themselves? So far, the temperature's dropping at about 3 degrees a day. Is this too slow for a new freezer worth £300 when we bought it?

The instructions with a new freezer normally tell you to plug it in and leave it in situ for 24 hours before putting food in it.
I'd take a look at your instruction booklet and double check temperature with another thermometer. If it isn't freezing properly then contact the retailer for a replacement if it is new.I'll never be a Money Saving Expert while my kids are Mony Spending Experts.0 -
Maybe something wrong with the motor now. When you left the door open for so long, the motor would have been working itself silly trying to keep temperature down.
Have you tried turning it off completely for a while to give the motor a 'rest'? Then turn it back on again and see what happens.
Something similar happened to us recently (lost entire contents). It did recover eventually but we phoned an engineer and he advised that if we wanted him to come out the freezer needed to be properly switched off - as he couldn't tell anything properly if it was 'on'.
Get in touch with the manufacturers - best thing to do for advice.
Good Luck - I know how annoying it can be. Luckily we had kept of our 'old faithful' half-size chest freezer - at least we still had the stuff that we keep in there.0 -
DD did just this last week.
Freezer looked like a gonner and food started to unfreeze. Keep the door shut and the freezer set to high and maybe yours will recover in 48 hours as well.

I did the same thing it was open all night. I turned it up to superfreeze when it came to the right temperature and I turned it back down the temperature kept going up again. apparently because the motor had been running constantly for so long it was all frozen up and could not work efficiently. I had to take all the food out put in boxes and cover it with blankets and duvets to keep it frozen, and tgaw the freezer out completely took about 3 hours, it worked fine after that, and the food was ok did not thaw out.0
