I was in central and northern Vietnam last October and while I avoided any really bad weather there was a downpour most days - conveniently around dinner time. I don't like it really hot so the occasional rain suited me fine. It just means that you have to be flexible with your plans.0 -
Whithout any hesitation, I would do CHINA.
I have experience of much of the FAR East, and lived in China for 4 years.
Shandong province, (East coast,)
Done Vietnam on the small motorbikes, Hanoi to Cat Ba, then all the way to Saigon, via, Hai Van Pass, Hue, NaTrang, ETC,ETC,
Done Laos, Done Thailand,
However, what you will see in China, will stay with you forever.
We even brought my mum over for a month.
Any questions, I will happily answer.0 -

The one thing which has away put me off China is the language barrier. In the rest of SE Asia, English is widely spoken and street signs menus are usually in English. How easy is it cope in China or is it just a matter of pointing and smiling?0 -
