Do you think we have mug across our forehead or does this all sound plausible. again we have signed (knowing this time we have a 14 day cooling off period), he said that we would receive the 56 page dossier the next day via e-mail (we did not) and that someone would ring us today to see if the service he gave us was ok (they did not)
Definitely mug!
Why didn't you say you'd wait for the dossier and take time to read it before signing anything?0 -
hi guys,
sorry to bother you all again, you have ll been so helpful so far. We had another quote mid week from a firm who claim to be the uk's largest supplier of panels. they have quoted us £7700 for 12 panels (he said they are 260 each so just slightly above the 3KW)
Do you think we have mug across our forehead or does this all sound plausible.
~£8k for ~3kWp
Why am I getting a deja vu feeling?I've been quoted £8000 for 12 panels today, they initially said it would be 9500 but tha they could do us a good deal) is that too much?
Is this a wind up?

Thank you for the 2 useful, constructive comments that I received, we signed a second time because 1) I knew I could cancel and 2) we were told that we could have time to consider but that if we decided the following day to sign that he would have to make another appt to get us to physically sign and that also there is a potential drop at the end of March (in terms of what the feed in tariff rate is)
Apologies to those of you who I have clearly offended by my lack of negation skills and knowledge of solar panels, I am a probation officer, not an energy expert and I normally make (much smaller) purchases from shops where I understand the rules.
To the person who asked 'if this is a joke?', no it is not, I am serious about getting knowledge and understanding from kind people who are more 'in the know' about this than I. Clearly I am mistaken in thinking that I will be lucky enough to get that this from everyone.0 -

Please take on board the advice you get on here, nobody wants to see anybody paying more than is necessary for an install.
You have however repeated the same mistake twice...why?2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -
I guess the reason we have repeated the same mistake twice is because the sales man told us that their panels were far superior than the ones we originally signed up for. he told us that they are the largest company in the uk, that their service and knowledge was the best and when I asked him about the cheaper panels available he was very convincing in his assertion that you get what you pay for. I guess overall after two hours of hard sell it (again) felt the right thing to do. It was only after that I thought, 'is what he's telling us just more BS?'
This is completely new to us, the second sales man knew significantly more than the first but the reality is we don't know where to turn for straight accurate advice, it feels like a minefield and been told you are an idiot (when you already know you have been one!) by the people you asking advice from, feels unpleasant.0 -
Did you know that once you have panels installed your exempt from council tax!!!!!
Yep, total b$$$ocks, but I told you what you want to hear? Get it?

I assume most of this is targeted at me. No probs, I've spent nearly 3 years on here trying to help people, if I offend one or two, then that's a shame, but .....
Should I have asked 'is this a wind up?'.
Well, you cancelled an £8k 3kWp install because you found out from everyone (not just me) that it was about twice the price. Then you sign for another £8k 3kWp install.
Your responses have been extremely kind and polite, and I've enjoyed chatting with you, but sadly, some people do like to wind up those that support (or show interest in) green technologies. So I (wrongly) thought you'd sucked me in.
You also say that you felt a bit confused, pressured etc into signing, long day and so on. Yep I get that, but you also mention the change in FiT rate at the end of March, something I very specifically warned you about in post #25.
If you read my reply again, you'll see I thought of a problem, worried that it might be used against you, and decided to come back on and post an explanation for you, so that you'd be better armed.
My intentions have only been to help and support you, and to provide posts that others (that don't wish to post, or officially join MSE) can read for advice and guidance.
If my comment last night upset you, then I apologise, but it wasn't an angry attack, if anything it was the opposite, I felt let down that I'd tried to help, but had potentially been scammed.
I'm also willing to delete my 'wind-up' post if you want. I don't normally like deleting posts as right or wrong they form part of the story, but nobody has quoted me. If you want it deleted let me know, as odd as this may sound, if you thank it, I'll know to delete it.
Moving on anything you want to know, I'll happily try to help with. Salesmen and panels and tricks etc etc, start from this basis, we (seasoned PV'ers) enjoy keeping up with the news, and have heard it all before. We have nothing to gain in misleading you. That doesn't mean we're perfect (and clearly, I'm very far from that) but we can be trusted to give honest advice.
There are no wonder panels, and probably not any truly carp ones either (that are legally sanctioned for sale in the UK) so simply work on 3kWp (if that's all you can fit) should/could come in at around £4k (to £5k). Anything else is salesman commission.
Please don't rush your decision, getting the pre-April FiT rate will now be tricky. Far better to save thousands on the install than worry about a lost £15pa on the FiT subsidy.
Lastly, if you're upset with me, fine I can keep my head down. But please don't be put off continuing to seek advice from this forum.

Read the whole of this and do wonder like you Martin about it .
The OP cancelled an £8k install and signed another at £7.7k when told that they could get it FAR cheaper .
They can still cancel this new one and i sincerely hope that they do , i kick myself a little that i didn't push our 4kw price down a little more and we paid £6100 recently. But i am reassured by the quality of the people i have dealt with and there was no pressure from them at all . They told me that they would match any other quotes i got , which they did , i didn't get that many and i am happy with my purchase/service.
Its not too late SAMROSE to cancel - Please Please do so and then concentrate on what people say on this forum ... I have taken all my advice from people from here . The drop in FIT rate after 1/4/15 makes little difference and you are spending £2000 too much at least .0 -
