I've been quoted £8000 for 12 panels today, they initially said it would be 9500 but tha they could do us a good deal) is that too much?

    Sam,

Check out my thread here. From 10.2k to 4.75k https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5181412

Suggest you do shop around. I contacted a few installers, based on suggestions received on this forum. It helps!

  • Thank you, very much appreciated although I am panicking now as they said to get the reduced price we had to sign the contract there and then, are we legally committed now?

    Hiya Sam

    Does that mean you signed?

Don't worry, you have every right to cancel. So cancel it, and spend some time getting more quotes and learning some of the basics about PV. Ask folk on here.

You may be interested in the PV FAQs, particularly sections 1 & 2.

Never fall for that ploy again! It's an old double-glazing salesman trick.
  • Thanks guys, yeah we signed. feel pretty stupid now as the 8 grand is literally our life savings but we figured the 8% return they indicate has to be better than the isa it is sat in. Good to know we can cancel. I am slightly concerned that I can't find them on line too :(

Under the FiT rules/regs for selling PV you can cancel without loss. So no worries.

8% is a fair start, but you'll do better. ;)

Any reason why the install was only 12 panels (3kWp?) is space limited? Hopefully you can get that up closer to the general target of 4kWp, there may be ways, and folk will suggest them all once you give a few more details.

    Hopefully you'll go from £8k for 3kWp (£2.67k/kWp) down to less than £6k for 4kWp (£1.5k/kWp). That would shift the 8% towards 14%, I think. :)

  • ooh I do hope you're right, thank you for taking time out of your evening to answer my questions, you will hopefully have just saved me a couple of thousand pound :)
  • PS yes, they said that our roof was only big enough for 12 panels and it wasn't worth putting them on the other side of the roof
