Sold car, can't post V5 slip until Monday, is this a problem?
Hi,
I've sold my car this afternoon and the buyer has already driven it away with the V5, leaving me with the slip to send to DVLA, to notify them of his details. Is there any risk to me if the car is involved in any motoring offences before they receive that? I was hoping there would be a way of notifying them online but there does not seem to be. In fact their website seems not to have much about that side of things at all.
I assume I'm OK as the slip is signed and dated. Just wondering if anyone can confirm.
Thanks.

When we sold our last car we informed the insurance company straight away so at least if there was any claim then they were aware the car had been sold.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

you can do no more than to post by first class post , the chances of a box collection are slim on Saturday afternoon or sunday , you can do no more than post it on Monday morning0

I hope you actually meant that they drove away having been given the green tear-off slip, leaving you with the rest of the V5C and not the other way round.Never Knowingly Understood.

Sorry, I wasn't clear on this. I sold it to a motor trader, not a private buyer. I have now found the right DVLA page https://www.gov.uk/notifying-dvla-if-you-sell-your-vehicle (couldn't seem to get there from their home page, had to google it separately) and this confirms the procedure.
Thanks for replies. Good tip about insurance company - I hadn't actually thought of that part. I only advertised it on Gumtree this afternoon and the whole thing was over and done with before I had a proper chance to plan this stuff. I thought it would take a week to sell!!0 -
Keep a copy of the slip: scan it if you can, photograph it if you can't.
If the DVLA don't write to you confirming that you are no longer the owner in a reasonable time, say a month, you need to chase them.
In the meantime if any speeding tickets arrive, you can give the traders name & address.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Good tip! I'll take a picture of it. I have already set a 4-week reminder in my phone to notify DVLA if the acknowledgment hasn't turned up by then.0
